Well worth the wait. That is one amazing build and detail job. 3D printing is really coming into it's own.

Top job on this one. I have just re-read the entire build thread and looking at the 3D printing it is bringing it home what a boon one of those would be sat on my workbench....

I wish I knew more about them.

The 3D printer is a great tool as it allows me try things quickly that would take a long time to scratch build. Because it's quick I can be more adventurous.

Take the gun housing, originally I left the 105 gun housing on and made a manlet that looked sort of Fireflyish. I could have scratched a more accurate one but it would've taken a long time to get right. With the printer it took a few hours to design,(then did other thing while it printed.) The first print had no gun depression and not much elevation, so five minute redesign, another print and everything's working as it should.

very impressive love the detail just got myself a 3d printer of Santa, I've just got to try and master creating the stl files for conversions cant believe how fast things have advanced the last few years , with out a doubt a plus for all modeller's

My apologies for potentially hijacking this thread.

Just been researching this 3D printer thing, downloaded OpensCAD (I have Linux so all of my software is free), and took a look at the Printrbot jobbie which seems to be good cheap printer according to the YouTube demo's (I love You Tube).

My way of thinking is that if I can master Openscad then I can make the parts on screen, and if I can do that then its worth buying a printer. Also took a look at Shapeways, looks like there are some useful parts appearing on there, including 1/16 military truck wheels etc?

I use Openscad (as I'm CAD illiterate) for all my 3D printed stuff.

As for printers, there are a lot of geeky, techy people using 3D printers and what they think of as simple basic stuff is like an alien language to most normal people. I've had mine for nearly a year and I still don't understand half of what the 3D printer crowd talk about.

It does everything I want to do and I had it printing within a few hours of taking it out of the box. The only real downside is that it has a small print area compared to newer printers. Having said that I prefer to print lots of small parts then one large part, because I don't feel bad if a 2 hour print fails. I wouldn't feel too good if something failed near the end of a 16-20 hour print.

I really like the detail on your tool holders/straps. Did you scratch build them?
