RC Tank Warfare community hobby forum

Hi my 10 year old son wants to buy a tank,i will also be buying one,What would you recommend for us,Want to spend about £100 to start with and will probably upgrade them in the future.
I am into rc quadcopter and planes at the moment and would like to try something different.

I would say its got to be a Heng Long pick them up brand new for £70 and then when you have had enough mod the life out of them .

If you then go to the RECOMMENDED dealers list you will discover the people we buy from, they are helpful and honest, any problem you let them know and you will be helped, BUY FROM THEM!! as to the type, as TANKER242 said it looks like a HENG LONG TANK, most people seem to start with a TIGER 1. Once upon a time I would have tried to steer you away from them as they were more toy than a scale r/c tank but now they are as good as most of the competition, they have an r/c package which can only be improved by upgrading to a specialist board and the Plastic is now ABS, Tough, and instead of everything being moulded onto the hull and body the tools and accessories either come seperately or clipped to the tank. All this comes with a proviso, DO NOT BUY OLD STOCK!!! A personal recommendation would be Dave at FORGEBEARs, he can supply the Tank as well as upgrades and most importantly VERY GOOD ADVISE. enjoy but be prepared to spend your sons inheritance and as much as the Bank Manager will allow in the furtherance of this addiction! shaun PS

If I had it to do all over I'd start with a King Tiger. I agree for that price it'll be a Heng Long but the Tiger tends to throw tracks once you start taking it outside and off road but the King Tiger because of how the tracks are made they do not throw easily at all. Again this is only from what I have encountered with my 2 Heng Long Tigers and 1 King Tiger I have. That and the King Tiger is BIG! Your son should enjoy the bigger tank I would think. Or if you want to start small a Sherman but again it'll be a Heng Long.

Forgebear is on holiday for a couple weeks but if you can wait he'd be the guy to get it from because he's great to deal with.

MR Orange Hi, Ordinarily I would say yes and yes although you should shop around for the gearbox most suited to your needs, BUT in your case I would say run what you have until you are familier with the Tank and with the wider aspects of the Hobby because you will almost certainly spend money on something you will regret if you do it now, Why not spend some time reading the relevant articles on the Forum, If for instance you intend buying a HENG LONG TIGER 1 then go to the HENG LONG BUILD section of the Forum and check out the TIGER 1 builds and get an idea of what you can do with a £100 TOY!, Do not rush as you will quickly discover this is an expensive hobby even when you know what you want. I could give you a list of what to upgrade but this is you and your Sons hobby and discovery of what it is all about is half the fun. shaun
