Problem with 2.4 GHz HL tank; won't 'turn on' (SOLVED)

I've bought a 2.4 GHz HL tank, a Leopard 2A6. When I try to run it, the following happens:
- I turn on the TX. Light comes on.
- I turn on the tank. Headlights start flashing.
- I press the key button on the remote, nothing happens.
Is this something the 2.4 GHz system does when there's not enough power in the battery in the tank? Would charging the battery help? Is this a case of somehow 'binding' the TX to the RX, and how would I go about doing that? Or is this simply a case of 'tank borked, contact store'?
