Salvaging a zimmerit job ?

I did my first ever zimmerit job on my KT and at the time I thought it was ok. Now I have raised the bar a bit (or rather this site has!) and I'd like to remove it and have another go at it.

My question is - how can one remove Liquitex modelling paste once it is well and truly set ???

Left the turret soaking in a bucket for an hour or so - it's softening up nicely now so hopefully zimmerit removal can start shortly

Dry or soft.... in general for most surface applications...a putty knife or xacto chisel blade works fine :D

Got about 90% of it off the turret now. Have put it back in to soak until the morning when I will finish it. The hull will be a different proposition as that's sprayed with car primer. I will persevere though as it's a much better option than replacing it. Think I'll go with a zimmerit free finish on this one :|

I have never planned to apply zimmeritt having watched too many builds causing so much aggravation, I can only imagine the foul language expressed by the tankies on the Eastern Front when they were told that it was no longer being applied in the factory's or rear workshops :O :O :O :{ :{ :{ shaun

One tool I've found very handy in stripping things off the surface of these tanks is made by Ryobi... I'm not sure if it's still made...but it's an electric chisel...

does the same thing as a putty knife or xacto chisel blade would...but with less effort...you can remove just about anything...and have a clean flat surface afterwards ;)

I've been consoling myself by looking at some photo's of King Tigers without zimmerit........they look just fine. I might have a think and try to get some idea's for doing a zimmerit finish on my Tiger 1 when I get there.
