Was able to acquire another spanking new shell for my GG1...will keep this in case I decide to sell the set one day..and just swap out the shell

Original shell ..prepped and ready for paint :D

Planning on a three maybe four tone custom paint job ...the road name is uncertain

Stage 1
Got the major colors on the shell...and a good coat of sealer

Stage one could have been doing the lettering first...but I flipped a mental coin and decided on this route as I wanted to make sure I would have a line to follow for the lettering...it will be a little more troublesome..as there are some "A"s and "O"s ...but with a little luck should turn out OK :D

Since I didn't really have a LONG ISLAND engine in my stable ...and because this GG1 was a bargain...long story short
there she is...custom painted LONG ISLAND GG1...sporting the classic Pennsylvania RR Keystone...but styled for the Long Island RR :D

Image
Image
Like the Pennsylvania RR GG1s ...the Keystone Herald is also on the front and rear headers

Pantographs down

Pantographs up

Image
Not all that clear...the top photo is the first iconic symbol of the Long Island RR ...I call him Injun Joe
the lower photo is the iconic symbol that became Long Islands Mascot in the following years ...Dashing Dan

That's it Gents....GG1 is now done...it was fun

Forgot to say...this engine / paint job is totally fiction...LIRR never ran the GG1...it was a small branch line off of the larger PRR...They did use the Keystone...but not on their engines...I thought it was fitting that there should be at least one done with the iconic Keystone with the LIRR trademark on it :D

That is a beautiful job all around on that engine - not just the execution of the paint, but the overall decision on the color scheme and markings as well. Most people would get so hung up on having to make it prototypical that they'd never even consider doing a "what-if" livery. I like the various iterations of GG1's, but I think I like your scheme best of all! (Maybe you should copyright it, and see if you can start a following). Very cool.
