Hi all,

Too lazy to look this up as I am sure many of you would know the answer off the top of your head. What is the closest to the Panzer Grau RAL 7027 ? Ideally Tamiya as I have better access to but also Vallejo. I am really not very good at this, but I always think it is somewhere between the Tamiya German Grey and the Tamiya Dark Grey.

Wish I could help Michael....as you know I can't get Tamiya colors anymore... but the way I match up colors is to find the best photo or a color chip that depicts the color ...then mix and match what I can get till I get a close result....as an added note...if you do do it in that manner... don't look at the wet mix... it will usually be darker...sample brush some on the color you plan to cover ..(say red oxide primer) let it dry and adjust from there

Thanks ALPHA....... I am not a "colour mixer" (camo equivalent of a rivet counter ?!?!?) but just looking for some reasonably facsimile that I can use for air brushing a base coat and touch-ups.

Vallejo do Panzer Grey Val 73603 RAL 7021, it is a primer but is also an excellent top coat.

Try Model Masters 1950\FS36076 'Panzer Gray' It produces a really nice and accurate version of the dark blue gray. Looks even better with some weathering.

I'm a color mixer of necessity ...not because I'm picky ...though there was a long long time ago when being picky was important...that's when I painted automobiles (real ones) when color matching and blending had to be rather precise ...now...just like details on my tanks...close enough is good enough

Thanks guy. I know I can get Vallejo but I think my local hobby shop also carries Model Master so will give that a shot as well !

Model Masters is Enamel Paint so be prepared for that issue. I used this on my Tiger as well, with the Matt Varnish sealer. But the clean up and thinner ratio, the drying time all these factors do add to the effort required.

Tamiya makes the XF-63 German Grey,which I miXed with XF-22 rlm Grey and flat base xf21 (10ml size only) to achieve a pretty good Panzer Grey Kubel.

Very, very nice color on the Tiger! I forgot to mention that I used the Model Masters Matt Varnish as well before weathering. It seals and gives a great surface for the weathering powders to grab onto.
