I saw this game pop up on steam for pre-order and it looked pretty cool (and not expensive) so I grabbed it and waited until it released. I've been having a blast with it so far. Sure it's not a serious historic war game but that sure doesn't matter.

The game takes place in what is basically WWII Europe. The characters represented are from a small nation in the North that is attacked by the great Empire, represented by the color red, basically Soviet Union vs Finland. "Germany" is represented as the "good guys" of western Europe and the evil Empire is the USSR basically. These are just comparisons, as this game doesn't take place in any actual real-world setting or amongst any real nations but it reflects parts of history. The tanks, while not real world tanks are very reminiscent of WWII tanks. Parts of T-34's, PZ3's and PZ4's and even Tiger B's can be seen.

It's an anime style story line, not the brutal western stories of war but a less serious take on the fighting from what I've seen so far. Graphically it's interesting. The way it's drawn is made to look like a painting crossed with Japanese anime style art. The game is turn based in that you have a limited number of actions you can do with each troop or unit before ending your turn and letting the enemy take their turn. It's somewhat tactical and not typical JRPG silliness of a character getting shot over and over and then beating the enemy machine gunners with a sword. If you bring a scout to fight up close against an assault character the scout will get beaten, generally. Tanks can't be punched or hit with a sword and damaged like would happen in a Final Fantasy game for example. Using tactical know how you can make assaults with your team of multiple specialist type soldiers and vehicles and follow the story or play skirmishes for fun.

It's not the best game ever but its more than worthy of attention. A few oddities and bugs weigh it down but even if this isn't your style of game you may find it really fun once you get into it. After the intro when you get to build your squad and really get tactical things are great.

You can see the WWII tank inspiration in the designs.

Going to give this a try at some point. To many games out right now which I want to play and don't have time for already :(

Maybe we should have a sticky thread with Steam user IDs?
