Hi guys,

Just been on the Welsh Dragon Models sight and was looking at metal tracks.

They list standard metal tracks for around £50 but then they also list the impact tracks that are 3 times the price.

Can anyone please explain the difference and pros and cons if any?

Thanks

Merlin,

Impact are nice tracks. The cast is very clean and the track links never kinks and are very smooth. They are basically better tracks. Also the track pins only goes in one way and it has a head on one end. So in theory they will never come off like the real thing if it is install properly.

It might also be cheaper for you to buy direct from Impact.

Mike pretty much nailed it. Don't get me wrong, metal tracks are usually pretty good anywhere but Impact tracks are amazing. Harder metal (like a solid steel instead of white pot metal), better quality details, better track pins, better mold quality, more accurate for scale purposes, etc.

On my tank I have the cheaper Heng Long metal tracks for the drive tracks and I bought a number of Impact individual links for the decorative spare track pieces as the quality is that much higher.

The only "con" to Impact is the very high price. In every way they are better than other cheaper brands.

If they're that nice I may have to get them to replace my stock metal ones.

Just a thought - I have 2 sets of Impacts , Tiger 1 ( late ) & KV , the Tiger tracks fit my Asiatam/Taigen/Mato sprockets well , but the KV's will only fit the Tamiya sprockets although they do fit the Asiatam ones too - but not perfectly ) so it would be best to ask around first to see if they are suitable for your particular tank .

Impacts are made to fit Tamiyas. You can also buy the sprockets but they're also for Tamiya axles. However they might fit other tanks but I know people have had problems before.

I would have thought early Tiger tracks would fit any early Tiger same with King Tigers.

Jackalope I have never been able to work out how a truly accurate 1/16 representation of a Tiger 1 apart from the motors, gearboxes and electrics can be so different from one maker to another, logically the dimensions should be the same whoever made it. shaun

Good Afternoon,
I think that the shared molds are getting old in some cases.
