Heng Long KV-1 Questions

Hi,

I am looking at buying a heng long KV-1 and have a few questions -

1) I can't find an IR version for sale in the UK - could you recommend a vendor that sells them.

2) I was going to install the taigen 4:1 steel gears - are these the best option? With the standard plastic hull do the long shafts work with both the metal and plastic sprockets?

3)metal / plastic tracks - can you run the plastic ones with slack to get the track droop (like the characteristic KV look) and will they be ok out in the backyard or would I need to look at the more weighty metal tracks.

I thought about the "full metal option" but as I like tinkering I thought I would work on improving the plastic chassis instead - plus its cheaper :D

Cheers

Guy

Not sure your budget allows for it...but perhaps you might want to consider the Taigen... it's a little more expensive ...but it is IR and is chocked full of metal upgrades that you might put on the Heng Long... I would recommend Mato Mart if you must have HL ...they do deal with the UK...but I've read that some have had problems with shipping the batteries there...and I think now they ship without it ...you could inquire ...I think they are the only ones that I've seen that carry the IR KV1

they are also listed on EBAY as RC Dynasty

The Taigen seems to be available from most vendors there in the UK

hi wyvern, I try`d to get ir version as well ,but had to settle on the smoke & sound version then upgrade parts , I think welsh dragon can assist you with gearbox & shaft choice,[ metal sprockets go better with metal tracks ] & you can buy the ir system separately, I am sure someone on the site can tell you where to buy the ir system , ps metal tracks give the better droop, than the plastic ones, & I am not sure, but welsh dragon might even sell the kv1 with ir fitted, but you`d have to check it for your self, tanker 242

The HL.. I don't think so...but I haven't visited their site since last year

Good Afternoon,
I have a brand new Taigen KV-1 IR turret left over from my recent Torro/Taigen KV-2 build. Every thing works and was fired to test. There are photos in the build thread for the KV-2. If interested, let me know. You will have tons of fun with whatever type of KV that you get. Huge tanks and bullet proof!
Regards,
Painless

P.S. almost forgot the thread link: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=12930&start=20 ( on pg 2 )

My girlfriend has an older KV-1, all plastic, and pre RX-18 board. So it's about the lowest end model Heng Long ever and it's still great. The thing goes anywhere with those wide tracks. As far as drivability any KV-1 is suitable.

That said, you can't beat low ratio metal gears and tracks. They will take a tank through really tough terrain.

Hi All,
I started with the standered KV1 and upgraded it as I wanted now all metal it's bomb proof now goes anywhere . So I'd say start with the standered one. Brian...

This is my KV1. From new it sits a little high i the front. I added 200 gr. Of led in the front to lover it a bit. This had the sideeffect of slagging the plastictracks a bit (foto)
BTW i also installed a 3:1 gearbox and taigen 2,4 ghz.

Thanks guys for you responses. I am erring towards the plastic model and then adding the 4:1 boxes and then later a clark board. Of the heng long plastic tracks I think the KV-1s are probably some of the stronger so I will see how they go. The taigen option looks good - but I could still see me wanting the el mod suspension at which point we are into serious money and I would still like a 4:1 transmission and a clark board!

The aim is to build a long barreled 76 mm prototype (should be pretty straightforward)

PS - Dane - your KV-1 looks great
