I already have receiver fans on my King tiger and Tiger 1. In those I moved the receiver location after changing the radio systems altogether. But there is plenty of room in their hulls for doing things like that



This is a photo of the king tiger, i moved the Rx all the way to the back and there is plenty of room for the fan.

On my new T-34 I would prefer not to change a thing, i bought this one "loaded" since it's cheaper that way, it has metal gearbox and tracks and 2.4 ghz radio. I have left it unmodified and the receiver is pretty much crammed into a spot in the hull in front of the gearboxes (on the T-34 they are mounted in the rear of the tank). But, I noticed a problem when I drive it around in short grass and dirt for a while, the turret traverse gets jerky and sort of "stutters" kind of intermittent but still works...which it doesn't do when everything is cold...is this caused by heat? With the other two tanks how they act cold or hot, it is consistent. Could this stuttering thing that the turret does be caused by the electronics the receiver getting hot and a sign I really do need the receiver fan? Or am I just worrying about nothing?

To mount a fan on the receiver, means it would have to be moved and maybe the only place it would fit is in front under the drivers hatch. And I would have to cut and splice the motor wires and from the power switch to make them longer. I am asking opinions if I should do anything or not, add a fan or just leave it all alone?

if your tanks stutters it is not caused by temperature.
Fans on RX18's and Taigens are useless unless you live is a super hot area and even then the benefit is probably moot

It's your battery Mark.... That's what is heating up....thus what you are experiencing is power loss...try again with a stronger one... check the time... it should last longer but when that battery heats up .. your tank will act funky again ...it's the nature of the beast...don't worry about it too much

Have you tried using Lipo batteries? More power and capacity in a smaller package if you go for 2S 7.4v. You'll need a balanced charger and a low voltage cut off or buzzer. Of you can get some pretty small PC fans to circulate the air inside the hull, as small as 20mm square. Opening up the grills and replacing with mesh or PE will help the heat exit.

thanks for the replies fellas, I wanted some opinions before i tear into a perfectly good tank...no fan then! The battery is a Venom 3300 mAmp, I guess it heated up after driving in the grass.
It feels strange to just drive a tank that needs nothing. But after 3 of them I know better to fix something that ain't broke without good reasons.

Just something you can do Mark....go look in the school supply section of any store...they sell those plastic subject dividers for those three ring folders... usually colored ...make some rings out of them by tracing the bottom of your turret ...or get a protractor measure and mark the plastic... cut that out...remove your turret and put it on the flat where the turret spins makes a world of difference...you'll be amazed at how much smoother your turret response is....that trick came from sassgrunt
