I'm almost ashamed-pulled the pin on KT Metal tracks

That i don't need really...the price was too low to resist for my king tiger that i just refurbed...there's one day left for this price, $56 (£34.77) here's the link.

So on impulse, I bought em...everybody else asks much more money for these tracks-some vendors want twice as much. The slow boat from China will give me time, and motivation to add the metal gearboxes i've had ready but been putting off.

Here's the KT refurbed, I finally have the paint how i want it. I'd like to thank everyone who responded to my sometimes overly persistent posts, Alpha, Wolf, everyone was quite helpful and positive with your feedback, it really helped and gave me inspiration and ideas to get this tank right, thank you one and all!

I have posted before about issues with making the metal tracks work on my other tank, my Tiger1, which they do, finally. But these tracks are bigger, heavier, and longer, so this is to me, certainly going to require more beefing up of the hull and gearbox mounts. I need to add some nuts and long bolts through the hull to hold the gearboxes in. With metal reinforcement underside the hull or at least big washers underneath. I' don't really think that the plastic hull mounts for the gearbox screws, as is, are going to be capable of handling the metal tracks for long before pulling loose.

I have made a pretty sturdy rear axle setup, three joined piece of threaded rod with nylon insert nuts behind the wheels inboard and bearings in the metal idler wheels, So I will try the setup I have already on the metal tracks and see how everything works. They will look magnificent on my newly refurbed KT.
If i have any difficulties with throwing tracks or the like-I'm getting a HENNTEC kit straight away this time. No more half measures, like i did with the tiger. Half baked "solutions" seldom work for long, and you just wind up spending as much or more anyway.

Did you give it a wash Marc? It looks good.

In respect to the plastic mounts, what can you is put some plastic card in the centre of the hull so it goes across the middle dividing the front and the back. In this front area, where the plastic mounts are for the gear boxes, you can pour in a resin mixture upto to the brim of the plastic mounts. This will both strengthen the plastic mounts and reduce flex in at the front. I've not done it myself but I've seen several people who've either done the front of the entire bottom of the tank in this manner.

Marc, the KT looks awesome. It looks like you did managed to put the decal on the zim.

Dude, metal tracks is the way to go even though I know you swear off them from you last post, and look what you have to look forward to now !

Well Marc....looks like you really got the hang of it... I think this is your best effort so far  ...The KT is a strong runner as is... just don't mess with it too much... I test ran my Herschel turret though foot high grass with no problems... this was with the same tracks you just ordered and white metal gearboxes the track slack pre set from the factory is perfect... I hope the ones you get are spot on as well :D

HAPPY TANKING SIR

What brand is your tank? I have a Taigen KT with metal tracks, idlers and road wheels and sprockets and it runs great! Much much better then my H/L Tiger did when I first got it! I think the H/L and Taigen hulls are the same if so you shouldn't have any problems with the metal upgrades.

I played hell finding the hardened metal geared gearboxes which would be what you want to go along with the metal running gear. Curtis from Immortal Hobbies had the 4.1 steel gearboxes and was great to deal with, I'd check with him.

The Taigen Hulls have more metal... Think you replied when I posted mine.... The one thing I like about the HL is that it is relatively light...and doesn't have the Zim molded on the hull... I liked how she ran...so don't think I'll do much tweaking...maybe just opt for the new gen 2.4 later on :D

No zim on my KT and my hull is plastic I don't have the 90% metal one. The hull is plastic so is the upper only the detail bits are metal. The tracks and all the suspension and wheels are metal as well and the gearboxes too. Which is why I thought its the same as the H/L

The suspension on the HL aside from the springs are all plastic...still pretty strong... might change to metal arms later on down the road ...but right now it's fine how it is... on the Pro version...only the gearboxes Sprockets and Idlers are metal...still a good deal as the track sprockets and idler set goes for about 120 US.. without shipping
reason popping the extra 40 dollars for the Pro was my choice.... You of course got the deal of the year Jack... that Taigen retails for about 4 maybe 5 bills ;)

Trust me my luck is usually the other way around Alpha. My Tiger throwing tracks every 10 feet, the smoker catching fire is what I'm used to. :haha:
