hi, I've just bought an early heng long bulldog & the muzzle brake is a few degrees out of alignment,do I have to cut it of,if so how,to get it back horizontal.Hands are not very good for fine cutting with a saw,so is there a better way to cut the barrel & re-align the brake.Ian

Did you try just twisting it...?

yes,did try but not sure how it is fitted at the factory.I know someone on the forum has done a bulldog build & fixed the brake bit can't find the post.

How are you at unscrewing things?

I have had a look at the barrel with a magnifier & it appears the upper half,mantlet & muzzle brake top are one piece,the lower half of the brake & barrel are glue on separately.Tried doing another search but all I get is this post.Looks like I will have to cut it off,so what is the best way to do a fine straight cut on a round piece of plastic?

A couple of questions, please. Is this a new tank? If so, contact the seller before you start taking it apart and cutting the muzzle brake off. They should be able to replace it for you. Next question, if you want to keep it as is, take a look at the mantlet and see if it is also a few degrees off of level? If so, that can be fixed by opening the tank and working with the screws that hold the outer plastic barrel assembly in place. If you are determined to cut off the brake, use a scribing blade and handle and and rotate the barrel, not the blade as you lightly press down with the blade. Use as many rotations as required to neatly remove the brake. Give some thought as to how you are going to reinstall it. I recommend pins and glue.

Yeah that's why I asked how good he was at taking screws out... as the barrel can be twisted from behind the mantlet

Hey Jagman....if you have one of these...it makes the job much easier

just cut at the base of the muzzle break .....in small increments around circumference ...the amount of material removed is minimal...and when glued back pretty unnoticeable

thanks for all the input guys,this is an old rx13 heng long tank that I am fixing up.I hav'nt one of those saws Alpha so maybe time to buy one & see what damage I can do.
