Hi all
I want to buy a elmod system for my heng long tanks but i have no idea what to order and so i need you help if possible.
I want the sound board but i also want a control/receiver system working on 2.4ghz so i can do away with the rx18 unit and use my Spektrum tx and if needed a spektrum rx if you see what i mean.
I will then need to hook up my turret,mg gun, smoke unit to the new control unit and sound system.
But what do i need to buy to do this?
If elmod cant do what i need then what other system will?
Please if you can, point me in the right direction.
Cheers guys
Tim

Where did you say you hail from boggle... Elmod is like the top of the line system...it's very expensive...there are other systems out there that are a little more affordable ....never kept them in mind ...as I always concluded the cost (for me) wasn't worth the expense... but there are members out there like dgsselkirk ..MichealC ...Phil ...JohnF that use those systems... hopefully one will come to your aid

Sorry ALPHA i forgot to mention i was in the UK.
Yea i agree that the system can be a lot of money and that is why i come cap in hand to those that know a hell of a lot more about these things than i do.
I am hoping to build a complete system attached to a base board that can be placed at will in any tank i own and into what ever tank i want to run at any given time.#
But before all that, when i go to the elmod web page i see all sorts of boards i can buy but i do not know what is what.
At a guess i would say i need the think tank fusion pro (this is what i am asking about,is this right and will i need other items?) and i think this comes with the sound unit built in.
With additional cables i could even use this in my Tamiya King tiger as well as my Heng Long tanks.

There is a guy that has done this,i see it on youtube, all your electronics and battery are fixed to a slim sheet of plastic and this is built to fit into the hull of your tanks.
Then all he did was plug in the motors and the upper hull, put the 2 halves of the tank together and bingo, one elmod/radio system for all your tanks.
For me thats like buy one,get 7 free lol,so i got to give it a go.

mdkboggle,
You can do the plug and play thing on almost all of the boards in theory, RX-18s, Taigen 2.4Ghz, HL 2.4Ghz, MAKOs, Clarks, IBU2s, Elmods etc. If you want to use your Spektrum radio and receivers, then you will need the more expensive boards like Clarks, IBU2s and Elmods. I am on Clarks but I am sure someone on Elmod will be able to help you out. ALPHA's point is that just want to make sure you know your options and if plug and play is the only requirement, you don't necessarily need to goto Elmod that's all.
Basically you would leave your receiver attached to the board (Elmod etc) and you would just move the whole system from one tank to another everytime you want to fire up a different tank. There will be some plugging and unplugging but nothing more than 1 minute or two spent. As a minimum you will need to plug in two motor leads, one power lead, upper hull control (turret rotation/elevation), lower hull control (light/MG) and a flash/recoil. So at least 5 at most 7 plugs.

You're needing the Thinktank Fusion. It's also worth investing in a good speaker. The owner of Elmod is very quick to answer questions if you have them.

The Thinktank Fusion would definitely be the way to go for Elmod. It is plug and plat with H/L & Taigen wiring and I think has everything on the one board so perfect for moving too. The Fusion is available from rctank.de, who are great sellers. I don't have one of these myself, but they do look very good.
I would also consider the IBU2 very similar, and again great service from RC Tank Electronics based in the UK. I use these myself and find them very easy to set up and use. Great for moving from tank to tank and again H/L plug and play.

You got MichealC on the case Boggle... he's one of the best....
Reason I don't really upgrade is because of the limited space in the majority of my tanks...even though I use dual leaf lipos in a couple of them and even with the new HL 2.4 gig rigs...things can still be rather tight under the deck...Tamiyas have a lot more space...they don't have the battery box and smoker unit to deal with...I could cut the battery box out ....but I kind of like to keep my tanks in tact ...just in case I should sell them or something... plus it keeps the hulls nice and sturdy
Plus there aren't club meets like there in the UK...so really ..the only one to show off to is myself
Anyway...you have a real electronic expert on call now... so if I were in your shoes... I'd pm him with questions
Good Luck Boggle

Thank you guys for a swift rescue with this and now i know that the elmod i was looking at is the right one but,,
Michael c has mentioned the Clark unit here.I have looked at clark and i thought they had to be manually synced for sounds, but i know i must be wrong on this.
See,i am no good with electronics, even my pc runs on coal

So now i will go and look at the other options you have mentioned and if needed i will be asking a little more on these other systems if needed if that is ok with you guys.
MichaelC has pointed out that the board swap idea involves the plugging in 5 to 7 leads each swap and i can see this could end up with issues with broken wires and plugs but i have no choice.
Where i live, the other residents get a real bad tv signal and every time i use my Heng Long gear there tv goes down and so they are complaining, this is why i need 2,4GHZ as this does not screw up there tv.
So i am stuck,i buy one brand and swap between my tanks or i buy 7+ 2.4 ghz rx18's.
Ok,thanks again to everyone, now for a day of reading up on this stuff and trying to understand it all with my thick head

mdkboggle,
I wish there is a decision tree type for selecting electronics, but if you let us know what your requirements are then you can quickly filter out ones that won't work for you. So far it sounds like you need 2.4Ghz and portability so the only thing that has been rule out is RX-18. Here are some other quick questions that will narrow it down:
- Hobby grade radio. Are you stuck on using the Spektrum radio ? If so then Clark/Elmod/IBU2 is your only choice. You can rule out both HL and Taigen 2.4Ghz system as they use their own radio. However, It is not as bad as it sounds. I used to be on Taigen 2.4Ghz and you really only need one radio as they can dynamically bind to different receiver units. I have extra ones for battling and spares. What that means is that you can in theory just buy one set of Taigen/HL 2.4Ghz radio and receivers, and then just buy more receivers which will make it cheaper and not to have to swap units in and out. It will still be more then a single Clark/Elmod/IBU2 but now you don't have to swap wires all the time. It is bind and go everytime.
- Individualized sound. Again, only Clark/Elmod/IBU2 offers individual sounds. HL and Taigen sound is the same for every tank. Clark's sound is built in and cannot be altered (So you would buy a Tiger board or a KV-1 board), but both Elmod and IBU2 you have option of adding and selecting different sound files. So in your case if you end up with one board and using it on different tanks AND you want the right sound file then you should pick Elmod or IBU2.
The plugging and unplugging isn't all that bad. Obviously if you go with Taigen and HL 2.4Ghz the receiver is build into the MFU, and for Clark/Elmod/IBU2 you will be leaving the receiver attached to the board as you move it from tank to tank so you don't have to unplug and plug them all the time. The rest like the battery power, motor leads, upper hull and lower hull functions are all on larger JST plugs, and also the pulling out part is probably the hardest on the wires, but you are only pulling them when you are switching. i.e. the wires are with the tanks and not with the board, so statistically you are only doing it once every 7 times (or whatever number of tanks you have). The board will be the one that is the most taxed, but if it breaks you just buy another one.
Last thing you should consider is support........ Tankbear sells IBU2 and he offers great support, don't know about Elmod, lots of people on Clarks/Taigen/HL so there will always be someone with ideas to your problem.
Good luck.
MichaelC.
