hi guys,

i am planning to change my Tiger 1 into a mid version (more about that later in builds :D ), but don't really know much about them, i would to late, but ive already applied zimmerit! :D

so here i go! :    :D

what road wheels, Track, Idlers and Sprockets will i need for the Mid version and where can i get them ?

What cupola do i need and where can i get it ?

What exhausts do i need and if i need to where can i get them, or can i stick with the HL ones,

ive removed the air filters, is this ok on the mid model ?

is their anything else (apart from the extra turret parts) that would need to be changed or bought for a mid tiger ?

cheers guys, any help on my Q's would be greatly appreciated! :D

Matt

I have carried out such a conversion on tamiya tiger I

The big difference that jumps out at you is the capola changes. It basically is the same as fitted to the tiger II I got mine when I broke a tiger II

The road wheels idlers and drive wheels can be kept the same I fitted late model tracks

The next thing is buy a good book because the layout of the tools and the layout of the engine bay covers changed and it contined to change throughout the whole run of the tigers. The gun manlets also changed, off the top of my head there are at least 5 or 6. Also the comfiguration of the vents and pistol ports in the turret changes.

Generally by the time you get to the mid the air cleaners can be dispensed with.

As conversion go its quite easy but I must stress buy/borrow a good reference book.  The GENTZ books are brilliant as they have a time time detailing all the changes of spec for the tigers from day 1 to the last one built. If you were to see that  you would see that the tanks were evolving all the time.

when you remove the air cleaners put on the blanking plate on the rear deck, the roof mounted vision guard grenade thrower and you can put on the mounting points for the roof crane if you want, you can also change the track cable on the side...........

Pick a date you want your tank to be manufactured then see what modifications they were doing at that time.

Also Tigers were continuesly being modified so you could have a early Tiger with mid tiger parts and mid tiger with late tiger parts and by the end of the war they just threw what they had together so you get a tank that has parts from all the different periods.

another link you might want to try matt is, http://www.alanhamby.com/tiger.html , this sight is probably the best tiger site on the 'net, you will find everything you need to know on there, i used it for my late Tiger. as for where you can buy the bits you need, any off the suppliers on here or on ebay should be able to sort you out
