MG34 Panzerschutz barrels, my work so far

Hi all
Following on from my recent post in TFTMs fantastic mid Tiger build. I thought it would be useful to put all this in one place for you to look at.
I have been working on armoured or Panzerschutz barrel shrouds for my Panzers, so her are the results, and the parts sources I have been using.
Firstly the Hull mounted MG34. Not great pics but you can pick out most of the detail.

I used these very good brass barrel kits from Perfect Hobby:

I used the barrel shrouds, and replaced the barrel itself with a length of fibre optic from an old Toshlink cable. These are a bit fiddly to get the parts lined up but overall a very good buy.
My AA MG34s have also had the standard shrouds replaced with the Panzerschutz armoured ones.
It appears from photographs that the majority of MG34s used on AA mounts by panzer crews had the armoured shroud rather than the more usual perforated one. This would make sense as these guns were already carried on most panzers in this form for the hull and coax positions. Here are a couple of the clearer pics I have been able to find which show this.

So here are my AA mounts and MG34s with Panzerschutz barrel shrouds

The parts I used for these were the following,
basic MG34 (5 piece kit) A great kit which also allows you to model the receiver open if you wish to.

AA mount, very highly detailed as usual from Schumo

ABER panzerschutz MG34 Barrel, great detail but a solid barrel so no use for MGs with flash.

Gurtsack ammo bags, great detail on these, very good quality castings.

They have closed ones too

and ammo belts, these are great pieces. flexible but take paint well

Hope some of you found this interesting, as always comments and questions are welcomed
