ATAK zimmerit for HL King tiger-Opinions please

I'm asking you gentlemen's opinion of the ATAK zimmerit. I tried putty and spackle and the results were actually awful. I'm considering buying the ATAK, it comes out to $68 shipped, which is more then i spent for my whole tiger 1. I have painted and repainted this tank and I am still not happy with it, i think it needs the zimmerit to complete the appearance but i'm out of options on this chore. I sent away for the Tamiya zimmerit and it was pathetically thin so that's out. No one else makes it (are you listening Forgebear and WD?) just ATAK. Can anyone post photos if you have this kind of zimmerit on your tank?

Finish is pretty awesome, I'd say well worth it!

I can later but there is a king tiger build right now on this forum where it's being used. I have it on my Tamiya king tiger and it's a great kit.

Well you guys have never steered me wrong yet...I'm at the point where i have to fish or cut bait on this tank. Meaning mod it how i want it and be done, or put it away in a box to store or sell it. Too much time and $ into it to store, and in no condition to sell at the moment even if i wanted to. I think i'm going to have to take the plunge...

I have avoided zimmerit in all of it's many forms but there was a long discussion on RCU last year and the opinion was that ATAK was far and away the best BUT I must emphasise I have never used it. shaun

Have a look at this thread:

I assume it will fit the HL KT, you'll want to get some modelling putty to fill out the edges where things meet but its simple enough. Also get some epoxy resin to attach it to the tank.

Marc,
Sorry just saw your post requesting pictures. I have used Atak zims on my Elephant and Stug III, I just sold my Stug III which has amazing Waffle pattern. Here are some close up pics. I think they are just the right thickness for apply zims and they are quite easy to handle in terms of cutting and sizing, but kinda fragile. Like billpe says, apply putty on the edges and Bob is your uncle.

Don't hesitate, close your eyes and make the purchase. I know it isn't cheap but the finished look is worth a million bucks!

Aren't you being a little humble dgsellkirk? ... I remember the post from way back when I joined... you did your KT with a soldering iron
