So I went down today to the hobby shop and rescued a Taigen King Tiger with all the metal upgrades out the door for $254! It had been returned due to the main gun not firing but the shop shipped it back to Imex and they fixed the gun and WOW does this thing shoot! And its a BEAST when parked next to my Tiger and out of the box weighs more then my modded Tiger does. This thing should be FUN to upgrade and customize and build and I can't wait to be able to start on it but I figure since she runs VERY well straight out of the box I'll finish the Tiger first before I start detailing and working on the King Tiger.
I notice that there are way fewer posts and how to's for the KT vs the Tiger so does anyone have any links or advice when building this thing? Also metal upgrade parts, doesn't seem to be near as many as the Tiger so if anyone has any source for parts that'd be great as I don't want to order parts from a bad supplier.
A few observations about my KT, the paint job needs to be re-done. Scratches from the previous owner and the fact that the smoke unit was WAY over filled and the fluid leaked out and got all over the turret leaving a stain means it's gonna get a paint job. Also whats up with these tracks? I had to glue EVERY SINGLE link pin because they would slid out while running and the tracks would pop apart but a drop of Jet glue (not unlike Crazy glue) seems to have fixed the problem. Also while I'm on the topic of the tracks these seem to run MUCH smoother and nicer then my Tigers tracks do, perhaps my Tiger will be fine once I get the Taigen idlers for the Taigen hull.
Finally I honestly can say that I don't think I'll buy another Heng Long tank after seeing the differences between my Heng Long Tiger and my Taigen King Tiger. I'm SURE they come out of the same factory but the difference in the parts quality makes me question me ever buying a Heng Long again. IDK maybe I got a bad Tiger but I've dumped more then double the purchase price into it and I STILL can't just grab it and head outside like I can with this KT and have it come home in one piece! Maybe I'll have problems with the KT down the road but for its first day I must say its worth the cost to buy a Taigen over a Heng Long, sorry Alpha I know you love yours but mine doesn't seem to like me.
Pics once my wife comes back with the camera.

Jack,
Pics of your new Tank outside while you are having fun with it. please. I really like Taigen with their Asiatam parts but I like Heng Long as well. You may have gotten a problematic unit but you are well on your way to making it everything you want it to be with your Taigen lower hull and other components. I am currently undertaking a redo of a 9 year old HL Pershing and only the quality of the plastic and parts of that tank make the work doable and worthwhile after all this time.
regards,
Painless

No problem Jack.... To me all brands have their quirks.... I still will hedge before springing the dough for a Taigen...You were lucky and got a factory refurbished one for the price of a Heng Long ....There is a little irony here Jack.... because the Taigen you got... was a problem tank... It's just been repaired by the people who should have gave it a testing in the first place....which just proves what I just said... all brands have problems
Taigens are adorned with gobs of metal goodies.... but the one thing I hope you do not find ...is that they are not all that user friendly when it comes to tweeking on them....I have a Taigen PIII chassis ... that is a pain in the tush to work on I think you might have read the discussion between Painless and I on the subject ...as he had problems with his KV
Bottom line though Jack...is you got a fantastic deal....I'm really glad you took advantage of the opportunity ... I'm sure you will have many years of fun with that King Tiger
And that I am anxiously awaiting some photos of it
There's going to be a lot of King Tiger building going on

I'm about ready to start on mine too

Hi jack you got a great deal there, i have a waltersons-heng long king tiger and i love the king kitty, ever since i saw and sat on a real one in la glieze belgium or is it gleize cant remember but its on youtube, awsesome armour left there since battlegroup peiper walked home after running out out of fuel. Anyway with mine i changed the gears for black steel ones fitted metal drive/idlers and steel tracks. changed front headlight for metal slitted one instead of frogeye one.Fitted metal toolset . Relocated aerial, Put in taigen speaker. The dunkelgelb custom paint was stock from waltersons and came with a carrybag and uprated battery.A few Torro crewman were added as well If you want to see it its on showoff under Waltersons-Heng Long King Tiger. Enjoy yours and post lots of pics for us to see.
Regards stuart

Sorry no pics yet guys, my mom is in the hospital and she's real bad off so I haven't had time to do much of anything. I'll get some up when she gets out or is at least out of critical condition. Hope you understand.
