When you upgrade to metal Sprockets and Idlers, in almost every instance included will be Caps for the centre's, DO NOT glue these in place! Some time in the future you will need to remove the Idlers and Sprockets, Smear the inside of the rim of the Cap with Threadlock and that will hold the Cap in place but enables removal without damaging the Cap or the Sprockets and Idlers. shaun

So so true! A big issue with the hooben elefant is that you have to glue the hubs on. Another thing if your feeling flush is a couple of small rare earth magnets, works a treat.

I second Tom. If the hub is not staying on with pressure, magnet is the way to go......... Speaking of which Tom, I am trying to put a Schumo hub cap cover onto the F, but the mounting screws are really big. Are those sprockets HL and you mod them to fit the Tamiya drive shaft ? Can I drill in a little bit more so that the hubcaps can be attached with magnet to the sprockets ?

I would fit thin magnets in the hub and get rid of the bit with fits in where the screw is. Theyre HL sprockets I think. I modified the tamiya axles rather than vice versa.

I've used rare earth (also called neodymium) magnets for this; especially when the inner diameter of the sprocket is small, (like a Tamiya King Tiger). I've also had luck using small discs of Velcro, (they're sold in a package of them on a strip, and I believe the smallest diameter is 1/2"). I've used them, for instance, on the hub for a Tamiya Sherman. They have self-adhesive on the back of each Velcro piece, so I stick one side to the inside of the plastic hub cover. On the other one, I use a paper hole punch to make a hole in the center, and then stick that to the inside face of the sprocket. The hole allows me to fit the screw to hold the sprocket on, but still allows enough material around the head of the screw for the hub-piece to grab onto. -Mike
