Here's a couple of pictures of my current projects (and the reasons why the little m51 hasn't been finished yet).









The yacht is a graupner moonraker, 1.5 meters long and powers by three jet drives. This ones going to be interesting to paint!

The sub is a fully static diving model of a British Trafalgar class hunter killer submarine. She's 1:56 scale with a grp hull and separate water tight compartment where all the gubins go. She is modelled after HMS Trenchant which sported a snazzy experimental blue and grey digital camo scheme for use in the med. She has been through several hands who didn't know about submarines so when I got her she wasn't in a working state. I've had to replace all the seals and renew the arrangement where the prop shaft exits the WTC using an oil seal and a bearing. She seems watertight and hopefully sea trials on Sunday will go well!

nice tom like the sub don't suppose you have a dynamic dive sub ? swop for them Sherman bits ?I expect the m51 to be ready come august meet ....wot wot .....

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM... room for debate here lol.....based on the initial statement and following examples... I'd say the comparison is subjective... mostly because of the different genres
A boat ...sub... and tank... if there was an airplane like Phil's 190...well that sucker would be bigger than everything lol...so let's divide and separate the genres.... the boat.... boats are for the most part better when big... the level of detail... and the ease of recovery when out of power in the middle of a pond is a definite plus

The sub.... having only dealt with tiny micro models.... I must be a fool... as I think the tiny ones are more fun...for the reasons above....I can play with a mini in a tub or sink... even a fish tank.... if it gets trapped under water...no additional gear is necessary ...my hand is a sufficient DSRV ...now if a big sub lay beneath the water... even at a shallow six feet.... it means I have to get wet .....in the middle of a pond... for a lengthy amount of time... as drift ...visibility and temperature become part of the equation
Now the tank... Tanks are great no matter what size they are....



Recovery aside from chance visit to the Emergency room for hernia treatments ... is still relatively simple...crashing a big one might make one think about taking up an additional insurance flyer should the collision be in your garage ... someone's auto... or simply running over a foot

Pros and Cons...for going big in any hobby lol....reason it's best to just find what suits one best

Very true alpha!! I like big boats because generally there better access to tinker. They also look more realistic and don't have that bobbing about like a cork look. Sub wise rescue is definitely and issue, I've seen models that require several people to launch, you have to hope your fail safes work and you never need to dive down to find it!

Have to agree there if you have the room and can lift it up your ok lol i love the big boats has to be 4 foot or longer for me! But i have a limit of 7 foot as thats as long as i can go for storage well untill i get a bigger house

I tried the remote control boat thing once and just once. Ran out of fuel and the boat was lost to the tide forever.

I also tried the remote control airplane thing once too, HUGE wind and right into the trees and destroyed.

Cars, monster trucks, tanks and even helicopters are MUCH more user friendly IMHO.

RULE 1 planes will crash!

RULE 2 Always have a rescue boat!
