Important Do's and Don't's

Hi,
Another newbie here, to both the forum and model tanks.
Having drooled over and then discounted (because of price and weight) a number of models, I have had to concentrate on nothing larger than 1/16 scale.
I am almost at the point of placing an order for either the Taigen - full metal upgrade - King Tiger - 2.4GHz or their Tiger I.
If you have one, or a similar model, please could you tell me of any important do's and don't's which I should be aware of? Also, how many minutes running time should I expect from a 2000mAh Ni-MH battery?
Thanks, in advance, for your replies.

Do: Enjoy your tank.
Don't: Regret trying it.

I haven't any experience with the tanks of your choice, but from what I see and hear they're not a bad buy and certainly at a very good price point. Welcome to the hobby!

TTT, Welcome to the Forum, What you get is at this moment nowhere near as important as where you get it, I urge you to scroll down to the BLACKLIST and take note of some well known names you MUST avoid, recently too many new members of the Forum have made a purchase and then too late discovered the dealer was a crook, do not make that mistake. As to which one, how much money are you willing to spend? You should first work out whether you want a working Tank straight out of the box, with no need of work ( if you find one let the rest of us know) or upgrades, the closest to that would be a TAMIYA, but they come as a kit unless you buy a ready built from E-BAY, TAIGEN and TORRO come in different classes of build so look closely at the specification of the one that takes your interest to make sure you are getting what you expect. A lot of people go for a HENG LONG, they work, they are about as cheap as you can get, they are now almost as good as most other makers products, and there are countless upgrades available. Enjoy the search. shaun

I have only been here about a month or two, and have learned tons from these fellas. They are right, buy from a reputable seller, and decide how much work and money you want to invest.
I went for a taigen metal tiger 1 and had a few issues at first, but the original seller Gene, & Erik at Taigen fixed them for me now it runs well. I also have a HL with a mato metal hull that is just a bunch of parts I bought secondhand knowing it would be a project. tamiya was appealing as I do like he building part of the hobby, but they are expensive. So I went cheaper to begin with to make sure I liked RC tanks, I seem hooked son them now :lolno:
A metal turret and hull are harder to modify , it's much easier to grind bits off plastic :S
Happy hunting and show us what you choose.

Good afternoon:

ttt

Good afternoon:

I have a Taigen tiger 1 metal version, and I recommend doing 2 things:

1. Get some Loctite and retighten all of the metal suspension screws, nuts, and bolts.

2. Break in the metal gearbox. There are postings on how to do this in the forums.

By doing these 2 "services" you'll eliminate many future problems and have a smoother running tank.

How long is the run time? Hmmmm.... Good question. I guess it all depends on how and where you are driving it. I usually get between 12 to 18 minutes. Remember it is a heavy tank (close 18 pounds) and just like the real ones, uses a lot of fuel.

I am real happy with mine, and think it is a great tank. I don't think you can go wrong getting one.

Enjoy the hobby. And as said by others "welcome to the insanity".

Frank

Do - choose a tank that you will really get involved with for your build. One that "if I could have one of those things found in a barn I would ?............." type of scenario.

Dont - be afraid to ask for advice, search the net (or if you remember what one is- books )- for evidence or inspiration.

I'm new at this size & forum too, and it can be a bit daunting putting up pictures for others to critique and comment on, but that feeling diminishes the more you see what knowlege and advice these guys are happy to share.

One thing I did very recently to my own benefit was start at the very last page of the respective topic ( in my case HL builds) and work through to today. There are actually years of trials, errors and outstanding achievements to behold for every tank you can think of. paint, details, methods, tips, mistakes, all done by others and posted for the benefit of all.

Do be sure to look in the reccomended vendors section, its wise words from those that know, and the same for the vendors blacklist.

Above all, put up your pictures, its a great record for all you achieve by the end of a build, and it keeps the likes of me from running in the street ,drunk - with scissors, into traffic 8O :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:
