Good Evening,
Try An-Bri-RcModellbau.de He has some nice, scale brass hinges that you can mount underneath the engine cover to allow it to open.

I believe that it is hinged by having a pin that runs through the length of the two parts. Just drill slowly & carefully, and make a pin out of something metal. If you don't have a stock of something suitable on hand, be creative - I've used everything from florist's wire to paperclips to the metal handles on Chinese food take-out containers. There is a build with a picture (about halfway down the page) of how someone did it on a 1/25th Tamiya kit, here:

Hi Mark... the way sassgrunt has described is the method if you are going to use the stock hatches.... sometimes it doesn't hurt to over build the area that supports the hinge before drilling the hole
GOOD LUCK SIR

Thanks guys, spent a little more time messin about , I think I may have found a solution with styrene tube and a paper clip, need to figure out a glue that will hold styrene and HL plastic strong enough to withstand the movement hence my adhesive ? I posted cheers Mark

Mark I go along with every thing that has been said, but on the general point of metal hinges especially when working with Photo-etch, DOLLS HOUSE ACCESSORIE Providers is the place to go, all scales and sizes, and better than anything you could make out of PE. shaun

Dolls House accessories

!!!!!!!!!, how the hell do you guys stumble over this stuff

Hmm, need to make a couple of hinges for a 1/16th scale radio controled tank - German, I KNOW, I will try the dolls house joint ??!!
Ive have to hand it to you Mr Jarndice, its that kind of info and advice that makes being in this forum well wothwhile.......if a little mind bending !!
I am sure I have not been aware of a local place that could perhaps offer this solution, but now I will damn well try to .
Nice work on the radiator hatches Mr Caster, I'm curious about the "string method"

It's covered somewhere... pretty interesting technique... never tried it because I also read later..that someone almost crushed his toe with the counterweight tied to the other end of the string
Happy Tanking Sir

Herman my HERO, If you go on line E-BAY is where you will find suppliers of bits for dolls houses, how did I find out? One word, GRANDCHILDREN! Although when I was making the front and rear fenders for my Tiger 1 and knowing about the alternative to making hinges from PE, I wasted all of ten seconds buying 100 hinges and slide bolts, the irony was that the supplier turned out to be based in my own town! Save the frustration Herman, CHEAT. shaun
