Converting to IR system

Please point me in the right direction!

I have a 9yr old desperate to shoot the living daylights out of his Dad with his Bulldog. So we want to upgrade to the IR system.

So what exact parts do I need (some of the shops sights are pretty vague) to accomplish this, how easy is it and are there any guides for the numpty's of this worlds?

We have an rx 18 board.

Thanks in advance on behalf of my son :D

Good Morning,
You have the most important part already, the RX-18 board. As I understand it, you will have to unplug the Airsoft cannon and run the Flash LED from the IR Upgrade Kit down the barrel as well as add the IR emitter. There will be a plug for the Battle unit to add to the turret at a hatch. Based on the newness of your tank, HL will have provided a spot and screw holes for this. Everything should plug into the RX-18 board using the provided plugs. If you want to get very involved and add recoil, you will need to also change out the type of gun and the barrel and mantlet. I hope this is helpful. Don't forget to check out the Electronics Sub Header section in the Forum here.
regards,
Painless

Hi Captain Caveman

If both tanks have RX18 then you simply buy one of these kits for each tank.

http://www.welshdragonmodels.co.uk/infr ... -518-p.asp

It comes with everything needed and simply plugs into the IR port on the RX18. Problem is it comes with no instructions so you'll have to figure out how to install it. Normally IR emitter where the airsoft red LED warning LED is and the base of the receiver in one of the hatch.

You don't need a flash for it to work, but it only fire the IR signal when the tank fires i.e. when you get the sound and recoil action.

Ian.

Hello Capt Caveman... I have a different solution... Instead of installing IR.... buy another tank... unless you are really into tearing into these RC tanks...it can only be for the better .... with two tanks you two can have shooting contests... not at each other... but at targets and such...you can also put cardboard bulls eyes on the side of one tank and he can practice on a smaller moving target ;) ...instead of shooting a big one..which would be you lol
It might sound like a crazy solution... but if you put IR in ... you will have to have another tank to shoot at anyway

And if worse comes to worse.... just take the bbs away lol :D

Welcome to the board Capt...enjoy the adventure

By the way Capt.... if you must have IR... heres a link to a place that has everything you need
http://www.matomart.com/prodview.php?p=761

the vendor is MATO MART.... if you are located in the UK... you kind of want to be advised that some have had difficulties with them... if you are in the States...then they are fine

The sets don't come with instructions but are complete ...they do offer tech services...but their email practice is kind of lame..:D

Good Luck

Thanks for the replies. I am in the Uk and have seen the Welsh Dragon site, I'll look into that more.

I should have mentioned my son wants to attack my Sherman round the garden... I dont want to be picking BB's out of me, the dog, the grass and suddenly weak windows for eternity !!

Welsh Dragon Models are a top vendor and also offer a discount to this forum members (just need to email them first and ask for the code)

Another top vendor is Forgebear (also a member here)

I have to agree with ALPHA..... if you are not handy with the soldering iron and electronics it might better to buy an IR tank, but then you will have buy two to play......... :-(
