One quick question. The armor skirting found on some Panthers consisted of 6 individual plates making up one side of the Panther and appears to have been hung on brackets.

Has any one detailing a HL Panther made individual plates or one strip scored to look like individual plates. How did they hang the plating to the side of the Panther? I found old war photos and one had brackets down the width to help support the weight. Did anyone make the plating to be removed or did they glue the plating?

hi dietrich , i found a resin set on ebay uk for my jagdpanther which i think are the same for the panther, see pics in showoff of heng long jagdpanther refit to see them on my jagdpanther. they were superglued on using small brackets from behind, sorry i cant remember the sellers name it was awhile ago now.

Thanks tiger. Now this brings up another question. Did u have much trouble putting the tracks back on the jagdPanther after the skirting was applied? I have 1 1/8 strip plastic sheet that is correct width and length. I will probably score the strip into the six sections to look like individual plates and glue to the body. I guess I could do all the super detailing on bottom half and top half of the Panther then put both halves together and screw them in place. Just wondered about the tracks and how hard it would be to re-attach

The specific mount depends on the version but essentially they are all variations on metal hooks welded to the underside of the skirt rail, sticking out horizontally. Welshdragon stocks the G type skirts. They are fairly fragile. They look good though.

I'll be honest you can make them out of plasticard very easily. The bracket would be a little tougher, depends on whether your going to have panels missing. If not just use some L section styrene cut to size. For y jagdpanther I had some left over tamiya mounts from the panther g kit so I used those. The skirts you see on eBay are probably the battlefront models ones. They're very robust but not particularly accurate.

The channel needs to be cut and bent but they look OK when done. The channel was 4x1mm

If you want to use brass schurtzen, Mitosal (Impact) makes them, but you'll have to figure out your own hangers for them. The nice thing is they sell "cosmetically damaged" ones for a fraction of what their regular ones go for. I bought five sets of these, and the only "damage" to any of them was a slight staining (corrosion?) on some of the plates, and in no way affected the quality of them. Hi again to answer your question, if you permanently bond/glue them into place then yes it becomes a pain to fit the tracks on and i have seen something similar on Andreas Brinkers an-bri- rc- modellbau site, he has some good resin and cast metal add on/conversion kits which are reasonably priced for lots of different tanks.
