Hi mate looking at your photo its wired wrong. That type of switch has the centre pole as the input and either one end or the other is the output, and normally you would only switch one of the wires ie. either +positive or -negative at any one time. inside the switch there is a slider thats makes the contact and unless the switch is maked as a dual pole switch it will short if both negative and positive are connected at the same time.
You could use this switch to switch the positive, So that in one position power is on to the tank and in the other position Tank power is off and battery charge socket is on.
Hope this helps Denzil

The only sure way is to put a meter on it and see just what contacts is being switched.

You need to bring power in on the centre contacts. It will then switch to the outside contacts, depending on which way you slide the switch.

Hello CannedHeat,
This is how a switch like that is wired internally:
In the
first position, the
red and
black wires are connected.
In the
second position, the
red and
green wires are connected.
The
green and
black wires never become connected.
So to make it an on/off switch, you'd need to hook up the
center nubs and either of the
outer nubs - the
red and
green wires or the
red and
black wires in my picture.
