Taigen Tiger 1 early my first RC tank

The Tank arrived today. Overall I am quite happy with it. A few minor issues out of the box the copula lid was fused shut due to paint as well as the other hatch, After a little coaxing ithey opened. The lower hull has a crack in it but a little glue should take care of that. Also the turret rotation is smooth one way and makes a whining noise going the other. That seems to be the major issues, it runs well and fires & recoils well. The general appearance is quite good. I am going to play around with it for a bit and then start repainting and detailing. It's the metal version and has quite a few metal details. The tools are molded plastic however so little things like that will be swapped out. Weighs a ton and our cats are not impressed :)

Mark,
Did you pay for the all metal Taigen Tiger 1? If so, you need to contact the seller right away. It looks like you have a plastic lower hull there and that's not the case with those tanks. If you ordered the other Tiger 1, you should still contact them. Looks like someone got over enthusiastic while tightening a screw and the hull needs either replacement or plastic welded repair.
regards,
Painless

Hi,

If this is a brand new tank, then I do think you should contact whoever you bought it from for a replacement or some compensation. That is quite a crack for the centre screw hole, and a new item should not be supplied in that condition. If it is the metal hull, which I think it is, then the crack would not have been caused by an overtightened screw as the hull will have the quick release system fitted. I think it has taken quite a knock or has been dropped at some point. It is certainly fixable, but I am not sure I would accept it if it is new.
The stuck hatches is not that unusual for Taigen, they get a bit enthusiastic with the paint sometimes. The noisy turret rotation in one direction is also not that unusual.

Hi Guys, yes it is the metal version, the hull is plastic with metal reinforced areas,
It wasn't screwed down it does have the quick release lever to remove the top.
I will email the seller a photo and see what he says.

I contacted the seller and he was great, told me to let him know if the crack got worse and suggested an apropriate cement to use. I feel ok with it and should it worsen I think he will help me out.
Now I need to research a colour scheme for it. I love the all grey tigers so I think it will be that or maybe just the sand colour. I don't want cammo. Just ordered a few books and started searching the web :)

Markocaster:

Look for my post under "Tips & Tricks" for a possible solution to your turret problem.

My Taigen Tiger's turret operation problem was solved by simply moving the piƱon gear on the turret rotation motor.

Hopefully this will solve your problem.

old chap ...if you are happy with the tank as is, just a bit of super glue gel will do, or a bit of epoxy resin , don't let the turret bother you ...
if you are keen on grey paint ,the only grey german tank I have seen was a panzer 4 [duxford] and this was a dark grey,i mean dark so I painted my tiger with a dark grey[toy soldier german grey paint ] but right or wrong colour mmmmmmm its very dark but I think originally
they were , pics of your tiger when done ....wot wot ....

That hull could use some bracing! It is flexing too much and needs reinforcing. I'd use some aluminum or steel bar stock from the hardware store-adding more plastic bracing is not enough here.

Here's how i did the rear axle for the idlers. Also serves to brace the hull. Its a fair amount of work, you could also use the henntec. Either of these and your rear of hull is braced a fair amount

This one below is easy to do, just cut the bar length and drill the holes. ( This is the HL King tiger)I plan to install another towards the rear of the hull. (The reason the metal brace is the length it is, is to allow the upper hull to fit) It is easily removable as you can see. The screw heads are standard round kind and do not touch the tracks. (Since the hull is plastic i don't believe you'd want to try to countersink the screws to make them flush, I just put them in a spot they will not contact the tracks.)

The tank is a shoe box shape after all, and inherently rigid especially with the upper hull installesd. Adding some simple bracing will reduce the flexing that caused this crack.

Thanks for the tips guys , should get it back in about a week.
I have collected a few detail bits in the meantime and am researching how I want to paint it.
Really looking forward to getting it back as I only had 10 minutes with it before it crapped out on me:(
So in the mean time I am reading all the older posts here and planning the build :)
Thanks again for all the ideas
Mark
