Hi all,my names Willi,..i.m 63,..and..have been bitten by the Tank Bug...up until a few months ago,my main interest was rc model boats, and small model tanks, then whilst browsing on ebay i spotted a cracking HL PantherG...i ended up winning it, and in the process, became friendly with the seller...who lives in N Wales,....we kept in contact, and over a short period of time He told me he was looking to buy a 1/6th Tiger or a Kingtiger,...i was able to help him get one, and...then at Christmas...he bowled me over..when he invited me to join him at the Premier day out at the Bovington Museum last weekend,....I travelled down last Thursday to Wales, stayed with him and his wife, and then on Friday we travelled to Dorset,we stayed the whole weekend,On Saturday past, we went to Bovington, got the VIP treatment which included breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea,we got to climb on and see inside Tiger 131...and various other tanks, we toured the museum, and were able to view the workshops, and have a close up inspection of the Pak43 anti-tank gun....which i thought was awesome,On leaving the museum we were given a Goodie Bag,and free entry to the Museum on the Sunday,..afterwards we drove back to his home,
I left on the Monday, and as i was preparing to leave, he presented me with a 1/6th model of a Pak40..and various other pieces of equipment, and a Dragon figure in full combat gear....and ...now i,m on here......

Good Afternoon,
Welcome to the Forum, Willi. It sounds like you have had a great time at Bovington. It really is one of the best places to view and interact with tanks. Here on the Forum, you will find lots of accumulated knowledge and knowledgeable sorts on our shared Hobby. Please make sure to post pics of your builds. We love to chat and kick the virtual road wheel or two.
regards,
Painless

Welcome to the insanity. I will be in the UK in August and hope to find time and a way to get to the Bovington Museum. Sounds like you picked the right guy to buy your first tank from.

Hi, yes it was,up until then, the biggest tanks i had were 1.35 and a small 1.56 desktop rc Tiger,....i,d always had a longing for a bigger one,but,....with so many to choose from,i could never make my mind up,...then around 6 months ago, whilst browsing ebay, i spotted the Panther G....it was well painted, and had a metal barrel, and the grills were brass etched,..it was listed as having no sound nor could it fire bb,s....but otherwise it was full rc,...I did,nt want to spend too much as i,m a pensioner,..i,d looked at others and they were selling for £100+...which for me was a lot of money,..but this one was sitting at...£40 with only an hour to go....so i decided to put in a bid,a friend of mine who had this scale and bigger told me..that if i did,nt want to get carried away in a flurry of bidding,i should decide what my highest bid should be, and bid at the last possible moment,..I took his advice, and bid £66.05 with 5 seconds left...and i won it for £66....I can honestly say...it was like winning the lottery,
Afterwards...i contacted the seller, and as i did,nt have a pc at home at the time....i was using the public library pc,s i gave him my home tel, number as it would be easier to contact me, as i only went to the library every other day,..and that was how our friendship developed,....
When the model was delivered,..it was like opening my first Christmas present,....it was,beautiful,....and although it did,nt make a sound??...i loved it,.....but a few weeks later,my friend who had tanks came to visit, and..whilst he was looking at it...he discovered that it was in fact a sound model, and the volume control underneath had been turned off,...he screwed the little slotted screw, and...it had full sound.....what a delight,...I could write pages of what transpired over the next 6 months...but i,d better end here, as my wife...might think i,ve got a girlfriend.....i could write more later, if you,d like to hear about it,

I too saw the same tour show..............In Auckland, Western Springs. ................um, I'd have humpped his leg !!!!!!!!
It is indeed a cause of wonder how the world can be that small at times that you could carry out an inocuous trade & meet a person that looms large in the life. I had that once when I rented (sight unseen) a house in a small town that happened to be a house the wife of the local gunshop owner owned !.................as a collector the fluke was profound !!

Thanks Lister...
to continue where i left off, around 3 months ago i got a call from Dai,and he asked me if i,d like to accompany him to the Tankfest at Bovington on the 5th April,He,d bought 2 Premier tickets for the event,..with the intention of asking his son to go with him,but..his son had no interest in tanks, and he suggested to his father...that he could ask me..to go....which he did,..he also went on to explain..that as i was over 600 miles away,...i could travel down and stay at his house,to break my journey, going, and the same after the event,...To say i was shocked is an understatement....I nearly fell off my perch,..I of course agreed,and...we then discussed ..how long we should stay in Dorset,...we agreed on 2 nights, and,..i said that as he had bought the tickets for the event..i,d pay for the Hotel....He said No,...we would split the cost 50/50/....and he would,nt take no for an answer,....i travelled down on the 3rd April,...and on arriving at his house, was welcomed by him and his wife...like a long lost friend.....to be continued.....
