Fixing up some old tanks

Post by MontagueFlange »

About 6 years ago I bought a 'battle set' on the Bay of E of a Tiger and T 35, They where Trumpeter/WSN ones. The PCBs went within a week and I couldn't get replacements that easy or cheaply. So I sold the set to a mate up the road and got my money back from the seller. They didn't bother wanting the tanks back.

Well I've just got them back at a dam good price. I have noticed now that the PCBs are all over Bay of E for not a lot of money but they are Heng Long PCBs and was wondering if they would fit.

No point buying 2 of these then 2 batteries to find out I've wasted the money :)

Thanks

Hi Looking at your photo's I,m assuming these are 1/16 scale tanks, if so then yes the RX-18 units would fit but you would also need the heng long recievers and transmitters to go with them. If you look in the electronics section of this forum there are numerous posts that explain how to hook them up. This is proberly your cheapest option. Another option is to go all the way and fit a 2.4Ghz set in but then your increasing your outlay.
opp's you said get off the road

Good Morning,
In case it was missed elsewhere, welcome to the Forum. You're in the right place for the help and know-how to make these tanks runners. The question is, do you want them to run and 'fire' like regular IR tanks do or do you want them to 'battle' either themselves or other tanks? The HL electronics will work after you mod the connections from the motors. You might lose the tanks' original battle capability and have to get the 'apples' and rig them for Tamiya style IR battling. In that case, you're definitely going to be running into some dough. They are both good looking tanks and worth the effort. Better electronics will really make them come to life, either as runners or battlers.
regards,
Painless

Hello Hawkeye.... Welcome to the board... as far as modifying those WSNs.... as Painless wolf has stated ...it depends on the direction you want to go... if you are going to just run them for pleasure... go with the HL complete set up...Controller RX and wires can be had for as low as 60 dollars US...If you are going to compete,,, you will have to pay a little more...and if I were going to go through that process... I would contact Welsh Dragon ... as they have steel replacement gears for both those models ...the ratios are the same...but it's the best it gets when It comes to WSN ...Forgebear is a good source for the HL transmitter set :D

Good Luck

Well I live in Wales in the UK so costs will probably be more. I just wanted them to run and have the turrets turn. The IR battle system would be a bonus but I'm not that bothered.

Thanks

Hi Montague, Ive six wsn tanks, you can convert to rx18 if you like .. what rc gear have you got or are interested in acquiring. I only ask because if you get a 2.4 ghz Planet T5 transmitter and receiver (on e bay £50) you can put it in different tanks, you then get a clark board or an IBU which are fancier versions of an rx 18 this then gives you total flexibility for all your tanks and they will be able to battle with others (RX18's can only battle against other RX18's).... You use the same transmitter for each tank but just have a different receiver in each one. This gives you flexibility to expand as the Planet radio gear can go in cars and boats and planes too the rx18 is limited to tanks.. You can get the newer 2.4ghz heng long transmitter and rx unit but it is very limiting.... The WSN's run like a dream when fitted out right ive been running mine for three years and the only repair ive really done is a new set of meal tracks as id worn the others flat
I'm manning the gun's ! Who's driving ?
