Taigen recoil SOS

Post by tanks_for_the_memory »

Greetings everyone.

I'm going to have to swallow a little pride on this one, because I thought I was something of an old hand by now.

Basically my Normandy Tiger 1 build (see link below) has reached something of an impasse because I CANNOT get my recoil to work. Unfortunately every time I try to fix it I start knocking bits of my details off the hull or turret and until I can sort this out I am at a stand still...

The brief history of my electronics is as follows: started with the old RX15 set-up, then up-graded entirely to RX 18. Then I installed a Taigen recoil unit and wired it up successfully... in the end. As recorded in my blog there were a few teething troubles but I did finally reach the stage where I had the whole set-up working, even if the recoil wasn't 100% reliable.

However, after having the turret recoil unit apart from the turret for a while I reconnected everything. Unfortunately everything worked except the actual recoil.

More recently I acquired the Taigen digital control package. This was installed without fuss and I have reconnected everything as before. Still no blooming recoil.

So I need some help.

First of all when I say everything else works I mean that the elevation motor is fine, plus the flash works when I manually trip the switch which is supposed to be operated when the recoil springs back. There is no IR installed.

Something else which may be important.I manually returned to recoil cog to its start position - i.e. so the gun is currently in full recoil. My recollection when I first installed the unit was that as soon as the power was connected the motor would turn the cog so that the gun slid slowly to its fully extended position. This has not happened, leading me to suspect that my problem must be my power connection to the recoil unit -i.e. there's nothing wrong with my Taigen package (plus this problem existed before I switched to that anyway).

I have wired up another Taigen recoil unit and exactly the same problem persists.

I have obviously checked all the connections to the recoil unit itself. The other potential problem could be the way I have wired in the power return(?) from the recoil motor - that's the thick red wire. This I have patched in (as before) to the black wire which runs from my on/off switch to the Taigen control unit. I have re-connected this many of times and it seems to be in order.

So any ideas?!!

Thanks, tanks

Just a stupid idea but is not the switch, switching the negative side of the power ie. black wire. and you require a positive feed hence the red wire, so connecting the red to black would either result in 1) A full short circuit, or 2) no power at all to your recoil unit.

i wasn't sure on this one, so wired it into the negative on one of the motors.
btw, your right about it slowly growing when you first turn it on.
not much help i'm afraid :/
