Early Tiger I builds.

I have a Tamiya Tiger I that I built about five years ago, ran a few times, then put on a shelf. Now that I'm semi-retired, I would like to renovate the model. I want to keep it a running tank, but will not be using it for contests, etc. My first inclination is to re-build it as the prototype, Fgst.Nr.V1) with the Vorpanzer accessory, as seen on pages 68 and 69 of The Modeler's Guide to the Tiger Tank, by Peter Stansell and pages 38 - 41 of German Tiger Tanks by Jentz and Doyle.
I'm not opposed to a bit of plastic surgery, but this may be a bit more than I want to take on at this point. My other choice is the Fgst.Nr. 25008, as seen on pages 70 and 71 of Stansell's Tiger book. Not as much plastic work required. I like the elephant symbol.
I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has worked on early Tiger's, especially if they have built a Vorpanzer, early style fenders or done extensive modifications to Tamiya Tigers.
Many thanks,
Scott
