I ordered a Stug 3 from Forgebear on ebay recently, he seems a great bloke and has kept me well informed through the whole transaction. Emailed me yesterday to say he's just posted it, gave me the tracking number and was kind enough to upgrade the postage to "next day", but suggested it might not be that quick due to the weather.

I was off work yesterday what with the snow but the buses are runnning again today so got that "back to school" feeling :-[ Figured the Stug wouldnt arrive today anyway and was literally walking out the door at 3pm when a post van pulled up and handed me a huge tank sized package. My first though was Great!  followed shortly by Damn! :-\ I really dont have time to open this now and have a go...... came this closed >< to calling in sick. Work is such a pain in the R's isnt it, gets in the way of all my fun.

Still at least I have something to play with when i get home...  Should be another late night

yeah lads, the whole "got something to play with " is called jess ( my niece) 13months old and cute as can be ,  so dont think yourll be gettig the tank out tonight mister!

( but ill play with it Sunday!) 

Nope my little tank commander was fast asleep when i got home so had a good play with the Stug, all seems to be working and Forgebear even included his own instruction sheet with good advice about battery charging. Easily the best ebay seller i've dealt with.

Got a question about the duel periscope that fits in the commanders cupola, should this fit into something under the hatch? HL instructions seem to indicate it should be pushed forward and there is a small peg on the front of the periscope, but i cant find any matching hole this should fit into. Is there one? You can balance it in the space at the front of the cupola and it seems to be sitting at the same height as the HL box pictures, but its isnt fixed in anyway and i've already dropped it into the tank hull twice so it wouldnt stay inplace if driven like this.

Also can anyone advise me what screws need removing to open up the hull.

Took a few pics of the stug next to my Sturmtiger to give some idea of the scale. Its larger than i expected.

Reference the periscope, on mine there's a horizontal circular piece quite deep into the cabin. It sits in front and almost parallel with the conector for the IR unit so if you have sausage fingers it may cause a problem clipping it in. As regeards the unscrewing, sorry no idea as I havent really started on it yet but I dont doubt you will see that clip Im wittering on about when you do take it apart. Good luck,

I bought a stug a few weeks ago and im having a great time repainting it and making a few improvements. To open up the hull, there are about seven crosshead screws on the underside that need to be removed. One at the front centre and the others are along the edges of the lower hull.

Thanks for the replies chaps. Had a good route around in the cupola hatch but cant feel or see anything like that. I think mine maybe missing but its no biggy, i was thinking i'd make a flat disc that'll cover the IR reciever socket and fix the periscope to that. It'll also stop any dirt getting in the socket and wont be able to shake loose.

Yeah Im looking forward to detailing mine. I cant get over just how solid it feels. The HL tiger i had always had a bit of flex to it so it creaked when you picked it up. What are you going to do to yours Fred? I dont think i'll bother with metal track & sprokets yet until things start breaking. Still not sure if i'll do the zimmerit on it yet. Mostly it just need smoe cleaing up, a few holes and screw head filled and a paint job. I also want to add the side skirts.

Crispy, Im just going to make mine look grubby and battle worn. I have fitted mudguards under the superstructure overhang to keep dirt out, added metal tracks and sprockets, removed the LED headlight, removed the "machine gun" LED in the drivers port and removed the battle system. I will probably modify the recoil and fit a cooling fan on the control unit but the main thing is a decent paint job, it makes such a difference. I already own a panzer III and its great so the little stug should be just as good. It also is keeping me out of trouble until affordable jagdpanthers become available.
