Yes I know ... I've seen it... how many move the antennas from the back of a tank to their appropriate location.... according to specs so to say...
Usually I just leave them because they were place there for strategic reasons... usually reception... and because the antenna can be longer in length
I just modded my PANZER III... and moved the antenna to the side where it is supposed to be..... the reception SUCKS

The only good thing about the mod is it provides easier storage

as the antenna can be folded down
The best solution I could think of would be to either lengthen the antenna on the side... which would defeat the purpose of moving it in the first place.... or shunting another wire back to the original location... and using a second antenna for longer ranges .... which I did
I'm now just wondering if I was crazy for moving the antenna for the realism ... it does look cool... but ain't worth a dang once you rotate the turret

Far be it from me to point out the blindingly obvious, after all it only took me 14 months to work it out, but if you fit a 2.4 GHz digital system you won't have to rely on an aerial and then you can fit one in its prototype position without thinking about reception, and if you have all your wiring in place then it really is plug and play. shaun

Hey Shaun.... I can't say I didn't know the mention of the 2.4 gig system would arise

...but thank you
The thing that still baffles me about those 2.4s is the identification capability... how would you know with any certainty that you are the only one running on whatever signal you are putting out... the old transmitters have crystals...the 2.4s don't.... so if you are in a field of say 15 people...and ten out of the five have 2.4s wouldn't you think there would be at least one that will be the same as the one you are using ?
I asked Phil about it on his T34 thread....mostly because.. he has the same one as I do.. and I would assume.. many more will have them soon as I saw another seller with that tank at a lower price on EBAY...it would be interesting to see like five guys with the same T34 battle with each other... as I think it would be impossible to do .... without one guy eventually controlling someone else's tank ...especially because of the longer stronger range signal being put out
It is interesting though... as you no longer need to deal with poking someone in the eye with an extended transmitter antenna ...or a precariously long antenna extending out from your tank snagging on something...it just raises the question of compatibility with other units that bothers me
So until I get the answer to that one... I think I'll stick with the crystals for now

Alpha, It is called binding, you switch on your tank in an area free of other R/C operators then switch on your transmitter close to your Tank, the book says 5 minutes it never takes more than a few seconds and thats it, you only have to do it once and your Tank will always recognise your transmitter. It make falling out of bed seem like hard work. I spoil you I really do!!!! take care. shaun . ps the reason you will not be captured by another transmitter is because unlike the crystal, digital is almost limitless in available frequencys so once yours is locked in any nearby transmitter will automatically search for one not in use.

Good Morning,
You raise legitimate questions about the 2.4 GHz setups, Alpha. I have to say that outside of the possibilities you mention, they are pretty amazing! The Panther I just completed was my first experience with the new set, (the Taigen transmitter) and it was a wow! moment. (no distance issues and strong peripheral control) I'll try to use the 2.4 setups from now on exclusively.
warm regards,

Ah yeah I remember reading that on someone's auction page....I don't remember seeing it in my HENG LONG CHINGLISH instructions though lol...so it's all built in... but works like the low end tanks... now I will have to give switching some serious consideration
though I still think it would be hilarious to see the signal jump to someone elses tank

especially if it's an opponent

...park it out in the open... and turn off the transmitter lol...
Dang ... am I evil or what?

.... Don't answer that ...
Thanks shaun

Hi ALPHA,
You can move the aerial to the 'Correct' position...and even let it spring and hinge as well...
with the crystals...just use an INTERNAL Aerial as the REAL reception for the R/C unit ....There are plenty of posts on it if you do a search....Its basically measuring the length of your current tank antenna and then using multiples of its length (say 2 or 3 or 4 times the length of the Heng Long Aerial) as a wire wound around an insulating container like you see in old 'Radios' before the digital stuff.... ......Preferably use insulated wire or better still wire that has a varnish applied to it...like the wire you will find on an old motor in a washing machine....and try to mount it away from the drive motors

Hi there Dietrich... I never thought of that

....sounds like a great idea... right now I'm running it doubled... with it in it's proper place on the side.. and on the back for long range...the authentic position only allows for operation within a five foot radius

...your idea sound plausible ... I was also going to try to build an external exhaust pipe for it... so I could hide it that way as well...
Thanks for the idea... I'll try to make it work

Hey Painless... I apologize for not replying earlier... I don't know how I missed your comments

....but yes .. my T34 has the 2.4 gig system... and I agree the range is incredible ...and the aerial is short... and already in the proper place
I learned a lot from this discussion... though I do still wonder just how many 2.4s can run at one time... and (my evil thought) could an opponent carry an extra controller... allow your tank to come close enough... and capture it

...a concept that could prove interesting .... entertaining as well

Good Afternoon,
I can definitely vouch for Dietrich's suggestion. I have a couple of Tiger 1s and a King Tiger that use the correct length aerials with extra wire wound into a roll inside the hull. No diminishment of range over the HL standard antenna is noted.
