1/12 Tamiya Hummer

Post by Ad Lav »

Recently aquired a TA-01 chassis for my Tamiya Hummer and all the bits arrived from Japan today so I thought i'd start a build thread :)

Following on from Rocketman and Cripsy's build of their fantastic Hummer build using HBO tv series Gerneration Kill for ideas I thought i'd do the same and have bought the box set :D

Here's some pics for now:

Looks like it's going well. I love that series, just like a modern day Band of Brothers. Watch the special features and you'll find out that a few of the Marines that took part in the 2003 invasion are in the cast, a couple have proper acting parts. They also dressed and maintained the vehicles used in the show.

Keep the pics coming Ad Lav

Pic of the brush guards - work in progress with them but the basic shape is there! Copied and scaled up from my 1/35th Tamiya M1025.

Bull bars look good. Didn't attempt them on mine as I like a bit of trail driving and figured they'd get hung up and pulled off. One easy thing I did that helps the scale look at the front was remove that TA01 bumper and fab my own out of aluminium. Just a simple rectangle cut out with a Stanley knife, sanded and bent to shape in a vice. Holes drilled and painted it cleans up the front a lot and fixes into the same screw holes as the old bumper.

That's just the stock one from a ta01 chassis - not got the hummer one yet as not sure what to use yet.

Will have a go at the ally front.

Need to order a .50 cal or similar but spent a lot recently so will have to wait!

Been busy with the Hummer today!

Brush guard finished and primed and attached.

Boot lid handle and bits fitted.

Deep wading pipe added with windscreen mount.

Bendy aerial fitted with base - will tie it to wing mirrors as per pics I found.

Rear bumper made - got to detail it yet.

Need a pair of wing mirrors and bonnet hooks if anyone has any spare??

Oh, if you'd asked a bit quicker I could've helped out there but I sold a spare pair of new mirrors earlier this week :(
