Hi 1st time on here and new to radio controlled tanks. My questions is I've got a Heng long Panther G which has had loads of upgrades and I'm thinking of buying the Panther Ausf F turret but can't find any info on what recoil unit and IR I could fit as its quite a small turret. Stephen at welshdragon dosen't think the tiagen panzer 3 unit would fit (to big)
Cheers Lee

I was hoping that somebody else, (somebody that knows how to post pictures and show you what he's talking about, that is), would answer your question. Since no one has; let me try. I've added recoil and an IR emitter to two of these turrets, and both times used parts from a Tamiya King Tiger.

To make the barrel elevate & depress, I replaced the Asiatam trunnion parts entirely. I cut away the pivot-point mounts from the Tamiya turret (on the Porsche kit they're on the turret bottom plate, and on the Henshel kit the're on the turret front plate), and transplanted them to the inside front of the Asiatam turret. I used the 'F' parts sprue from the Tamiya kit to give me a recoil-plate mount:

The first time I used a stock King Tiger bracket and recoil unit, but these are really large in this small turret. The second time, I used front half of the same bracket to mount to the pivot-point, but cut the bracket and 'spliced' the rear half of a Panther bracket and recoil motor. It was a pretty Mickey Mouse way to do it, but these are designed to be a lot smaller, and gave me a little more room in the turret to fit in the 'apple' base under the cupola.

For the IR emitter I bought one of the IR tubes from ETO that Daryl Turner makes. I drilled out the gunner's sighting hole in the front plate of the Asiatam turret and epoxied the tube so that it's flush with the front plate. It does not elevate & depress like the main gun, but I would rather have it this way than to use the 'afterthought' part that clips onto the outside of the barrel

I don't know if this helps or merely serves to confuse things, but PM me if you need a better explanation. -Mike

Putting the IR emitter in the periscope housing was a great way to do it! I looked on ETO's website for the aluminum sleeve they used to sell, but don't see it. I wrote Bob and asked him about them, and will let you know if they're still available - I like them very much for fitting to aftermerket turrets.
