Hi guys,
today you are going to take care of the right position of the pistol hatch.
And again, there are two versions.
In the next picture you see two HL turrets.
Take a look at the lower one. There the pistol hatch is positioned correctly.
If you have such version, you can stop here.
If not, continue reading.
The hatch at the upper one is turned 90°. That is incorrect.
To make it easy, you can by a spare hatch from different suppliers.
But changing the original one is also easy, so you can save the money.
Let’s change it.
The hatch is glued to the turret.
Remove carefully.
Turning it 90° into the right position is a good idea, but not enough.
The back side of it is angled according to the turret.
You have to take care of it.
How? I´ll show you.
Clamp a piece of grinding paper over the hatch position and grind the hatch until it has the right angle.
Remove the paper and glue the hatch back to the turret.
That´s it.
Greetings
Birger

Re: HL-Tiger pistol hatch
What would we do without BIRGERS Helpful tips ?
Just a small point, If you are modelling an early Tiger 1, Before the Turret emergency escape hatch was fitted in December 1942 there was a second pistol port where the escape hatch would be,
It of course was removed with the modification to the Turret.
Shaun.

Re: HL-Tiger pistol hatch
Hi Andy, Another good day I hope.
All the later Heng Long and Taigens have the Pistol port the correct way round like yours do, Unfortunately if you intend to build an early Tiger 1 then you have to remove the escape hatch on the opposite side and fill the void before fitting the second pistol port.
I found this out after I had finished the paint and decals so I had a choice, go back to square one on the turret or bodge
I filed the back of the pistol port so that it was flush against the escape hatch hinge, Then I clipped off the lower mounting peg of the pistol port and pin vised into the escape hatch,
I pushed the upper remaining pistol port mounting peg into the drilled hole and let it swing into position,
I made a note of the angle of the pistol port removed it and painted it then glued it in place.
I know it is wrong but most people wouldn't notice, (I hope)
Shaun.
