Good afternoon:
My first RC tank was one of the original Tamiya Shermans that I bought around 1975 (yes,I could be considered old). It came with a metal chassis and metal tracks (it seemed to take forever to assemble them). But, it also only had 1 speed forward and reverse, with no other operating features (bummer).
In the late '80's I traded it for a Tamiya Hummer. and wasn't involved with RC tanking until 2009 when I purchased a PanzerKampfWagen III from Mato. My thinking was everyone has a Tiger, so I'd be different. Even though it had smoke and sound and an airsoft gun, the bug bit. I upgraded to metal tracks, road wheels, heavy duty springs, etc. Eventually the tank took a back seat to slot cars and other interest, and tanks became forgotten about. Until this year.
For a combined birthday and Fathers Day present my daughters gave me a Taigen Tiger i, full metal. This model is fantastic. But I quickly found out that the Chinese seem to have never heard of lock-tite. So far I have taken apart and reassembled the chassis, and have shimmed and polished the gearboxes. Currently I am looking to tune the cannon to get more consistency in its operation (I was surprised by the amount of dirt, grease there was in the barrel)
This forum is excellent! I've been able to find answers and help for every question or problem I've had so far. I really enjoy the building and modifying aspects of this hobby, but think I'd eventually like to get involved with warfare and meets. I need to find out what clubs there might be in the Mid Atlantic region of US of A.
I'd like to thank everyone who has ever posted and contributed to this forum, as you are what makes this such a great site and hobby.
Later.
