Tamiya use to have a silicon sythetic grease for the model car bearings that does not attack plastic and should do the job. I use high melting point wheel bearing grease in my axles, it is thin enough not to drag to much and is waterproof to a certain extent

Silicon grease seems to do the job. You can get it on e-bay

I always use " WHITE LITHIUM GREASE " I get it in an aerosol can which includes a straw to get in tight spots, it lasts forever and does the job on Gearboxes as well as bearings and axles. shaun

i think ill need somthing fealy thick because on my DUKW ( If you take a look at my build ) you will see some small pipes covering the axles. The idear is thay are stuffing boxes. Idearly the greece that will sit inside there is more for water proofing
