Gentlemen:

Can any of you tell me the difference between the Tamiya TEU-105BK and the Tamiya TEU-104BK speed controllers?

Comparing the manuals doesn't help much but the obvious difference in the pictures is that the 105BK does NOT have a plug to go into the RC receiver battery slot....whereas the 104BK does.

If this is the only difference am I to assume that I will need a seperate battery supply for the RC receiver if I use a 105BK controller?

And if that is the case.........then is there any reason NOT to use the 104BK and just run the RC receiver off the 7.2v battery supply as seems to be the case because the 104BK has such a plug?

I intend to use one of these to operate an RC armored car because they are so small.

Im a bit of s Tamiya RC car fan so hope i can help with this.

The advantage with the TEU105 is it has a built in BEC (battery eliminator circuit) which regulates the voltage to the receiver and steering servo to 6v. Thats why it doesn't have the seperate power supply plug as it draws power directly from the battery. Without the BEC your RX and servo will be getting the same voltage as whatever battery you're using which isn't usually a good thing. Most servos work best at 6v. Running higher volts can damage their motors leading to premature failure.

The TEU104+105 have low voltage auto cutoff but its designed for LiFe batteries which Tamiya have decided to promote... most of the RC community prefer LiPo and the cut off isn't low enough for them! Let a LiPo over discharge and you can get big smoky, melty problems.

Both the ESC's also have a 50% power in reverse... nobody knows why? But in a slow, scale speed vehicle like your building either would work well.
