What frequency IR emitter.

Hi guys got my head in a twist of IR emitters and receivers. Trying to find a good IR emitter which works well with the Tamiya battle unit and the DBU. From what I remember been told HL tanks use 880nm emitters and Tamiya 940nm emitters.

But when I’ve been searching the receivers are 38khz which converts to a wavelength of 7889m. Which doesn’t make any sense as the IR emitters are miles away in the electromagnetic spectrum.

So what am I doing wrong or what frequency emitter do I need for a 38khz receiver.

Ian.

Ok I found this

http://www.vishay.com/docs/80073/general.pdf

Looks the receiver 38khz is to do with the pulse code modulation. Article mentions 940nm emitters are best for receivers in the 30 to 56khz range.

Still don’t know how to calculate the max distance range

Hi Ian,

I also build my own IR receiver with Vishay TSOP 2438. But unfortunately I dont have chance to test it yet. I let you know how far it is tested outdoor nextweek

I built IR sensor from HL case using vishay TSOP 2438. The range is bad....only 1 meter so far outdoor on very bright sunlight. For comparison...modified HL for TK22 get 5 m. Modified HL only fro the LED, not for the photo diode.
Any suggestion or comments?
