RC Tank Warfare community hobby forum

Hi all, new to the forum, new to RC in general...

I dont own a tank or anything yet, but seriously interested in getting started and getting into this although im not sure there are many if any others of the same mind in my general area (S.Devon), and as I dont drive, distance could be a problem.

I like the idea of RC tanks as planes, cars, boats etc look a bit fragile, i have seen footage of rc tank battles n it looks a lot of fun, and ties in with another old hobby of mine, miniature wargames.

Anyway, im hoping to get inspired enough to take the plunge & maybe buy a tank etc... problem is now, which one

Tanks do tend to be a bit more stable to the effect of operation and abusive driving. As to which one that has to be the single most asked question of all new members.

So the answer is........

Enjoy the forum,review the tanks and allow yourself to make an informed choice based on your intended use and skill level.

Or just go buy a TIGER and be done with it,the addiction that follows will soon solve the problem,as which one becomes the next one and so on

First depends on what you want to spend, second depends on what you want to mod. Take a look at some of the upper end builds on here, make a list and again look at the budget. Trust me, it's going to cost you!

Well heres a pretty thing, someone joining the forum, Hallo and welcome, the very first thing to do is to look at your latest bank statement, if you are extraordinarily wealthy then proceed with care. first as already suggested look at some builds, both Heng Long and Tamiya, Heng Long are cheaper but require a lot more work to bring to standard and are not compatible with I/R combat without modification but as far as I am concerned these are the best reasons for getting one ( well one for now) there are an almost endless range of upgrades available on line. read the various sections of the forum and ask all the questions you want, between us we will be able to answer them. as you scroll down the page you will get to the vendors site, first the recommended dealers who will charge a fair price and offer all the help you need next the blacklist, as you read it you will come across some familier names, AVOID all of them, we have found out the hard way that without exception you will get ripped off and end up kicking the furniture. In truth this is a brilliant past-time allowing you to do as much or as little to your tank as you want and the people on this forum only want you to get the best from it so enjoy. shaun

You might be surprised to learn that if you can pick up a secondhand tank for £40-£50, a non working Heng Long would be ideal, then you can buy a Clark board and almost pop it straight in. You will have a full function tank with sounds, momentum inertia, Tamiya compatible IR battle system, and all fully programmble via a tv remote, for around £100 all in?

This one cost me £20 for the tank, it runs on plastic gearboxes and tracks, all I had to do was make it how I wanted it, and stick a Clark board in there. Bargain.

You won't need any of the original electronics so if someone has blown one up, it's just what you need.

I have bought a couple of basket cases off Ebay and done that, and they make excellent tanks.

You can spend as much as you want, with systems ranging from £60-£God know how much.

If you are able to get to the Cardiff area then hopefully by next summer the South Wales/West Armoured Group (SWAG) will have a full outdoor battlefield up and running. I will know more on 21 September, so will post an update, or look on

welcome to the forum panzergopher, i started with the tiger 1,then got the kv1, then got the pzr1v &modded each one in turn ,i hope to get the new t34/85 when i can afford to do so ,so good luck with ur first choice ,tanker242.
