Hello! Is there, or has anyone got, an alternative for texturing exhuast pipes etc?

I am a cheap SOB so the method I have used for over 40 years is white glue cut with just a little water and mix in baking soda and apply with old brush. Let harden and clear coat and then paint with what ever you like to use for rust. I use oils. By playng with the glue/baking soda mix you can create heavy or light rusting.

This texture was achieved my painting the exhaust stacks a base coat of Revell Enamal matt 85 ( dark rusty orange ish )
Then on a saucer i placed plain old talcum power in the centre and arranged around the edge of the plate different
acrylic Tamiya colours , black , light brown, dark brown , red brown , buff ect.... Then using a small part of ripped sponge
i just dabbed away on each colour then into the talcum powder and onto the exhaust stack .

It is easy to change the shade by selecting different colour combinations , .... hope that helps
