Hi there,I Just purchased an 80,s Tamiya king tiger as an unfinished product from good old ebay.
Its pretty much all finished bar a few of the ancillaries being applied and the main problem,the electronics.
Main motor is operational as is the turret rotation motor but the strobe unit appears faulty. No control unit or transmitter came with the tank so im wondering the most economical way to get the vehicle running. Id considered a 6 channel transmitter and receiver(in case of any future upgrades) running a couple of servos to operate the clutch unit and turret switch,along with a speed controller for the single motor.I also considered the heng long controls although im not sure if that's feasible due to them having two motors. Tamiya dmd control unit is not an option as it too expensive.Oooh I can hear all the Neanderthal chants already lol.
But seriously if it is going to be too expensive to get running ill be passing it on and purchasing an operational one but I really would like to get her running and try to understand a bit more about these models.

i like the paint job on it,especially the big drip on it ! all it takes is some painter talking to another and holds the spray gun on one portion, hence the the drip. hope you get it it working buddy and cheaply !

Hi mate Im not to up on Tamiya but I have two King Tigers one is the full option model with recoil and sounds etc and the other is older . Im not sure how old but it had the current gear boxes and electronics . I upgraded mine to full option , kinda on hold the only bit I haven't fitted yet is the recoil . It was expensive but I didn't need to buy the motors or the base electronics just the full option parts. I bought my bits years ago .

There is a lot to buy to convert it to full option . However if you do convert I have the manual for the full option so I can list the parts you need so you can get a price (better sit down ). Also I altered all the turret functions to (not recoil yet) and there is a bit of work to do.

You could restore this and keep it as it is . I have a flash unit some were not sure if it works and I think the turret rotation parts which I removed from mine ,your welcome to them .Like the other post I would look for a full option one.

Hi chaps, just a wee update for those interested.
Shes all up and running now using a 6 channel transmitter/receiver, a speed controller,couple of servos and a nice new battery.
The flash unit still wont go but ill look into that when I've stopped annoying the wife stalking her round the house with me new toy
