Well since my "first" tank kinda well.....started smoking within 24 hours (Long story, but i got a refund so all is well so far) But i still have my Clark Board, A great DX6i Radio & Matching Receiver so.... I need something to put them in that fits my budget of around $450 dollars! So far i am looking at these

Taigen Tiger 1
Taigen Panther G
Taigen King Tiger (Porche)

However i am not sure which is the most idiot proof for me to work with......I do also have a pair of 480 motors i would like to use but have no idea which of these they would fit or work best in!

ALso before people say get a tamiya as a Canadian i can't get deals on tamiya due to customs dinging me $100-200 if i have one brought in,,,.... So unless i get lucky it would be hard to find one of there kits!

Thanks

Tiger

White Tiger, given your luck, whatever you end up getting you might want to run them for a while stock before putting in Clark and converting the radio/motors. The list there are all Taigens so it shouldn't matter all that much in terms of the electronics.

I hate to say it.....get a tamiya, they are hobby grade where the Taigens are toy grade. I have a Taigen tiger 1...nice metal suspension....ran for a hour and a gear box came apart....then there was the fun of looking for road wheels in the backyard, for hours....did you know that when parts fall off a tank that painted to blend in to the background, they seem to blend into the back ground as well? Seems thread lock is not in the budget of making these tanks. All of the road wheels are held onto the swing arms by little tinny pinch bolts....all were loose...some were lost.....ended up finding a hardware store 2 hours away that had some tht matched....

The gear boxes in the taigen tanks are just a step up from plastic, all the guts are heng long, the sound from that same grade speaker.......

Have you really looked for tamiya dealers in canada? I did a quick search and found ....

Tamiya is expensive in Canada for some strange reason, on the upward of close to $1,000 Cdn full option. Even if I replace everything with a HL/Taigen and upgrade it to some decent electronics I would still be ahead here compared to a Tamiya unfortunately. Hell, even the WD-40 cost twice as much apparently compared to the states (The smoker thread). White Tiger, what about a trip across the border ?

Tamiya would probably be idiot proof though.

Well if they are that much money....get a base hl ir tank from mato, buy the 3/1 gerboxes, pickup a servo kit for the barrel and gun elevation, order a full clark setup, hl flash unit and a tamiya apple ....find a good speaker and gut the hl tank like a fish.....pull all that hl stuff and run it like that.....don't bother with metal stuff, it just causes more ware and tear on the plastic stuff...you will need a trasmiter and a stronger battery.......

you also might want to talk to this guy....

he might have some ideas.

That's basically what I do with every tank I owned so far, base HL with metal parts/gear upgrade, flash upgrade, then Taigen 2.4Ghz, finally MAKO for most of them and clark for the rest.

With the amount of money I spent getting my Heng Long up to hobby grade I probably could have spent a bit more and just have gotten a Tamiya!

It has been fun getting all the little pieces for my Tiger so far, if that counts in your book.... I like browsing hobby shops for materials and thinking about how to make scratch built pieces. So that makes the cost worthwhile to me.

If you just want a decent toy the Heng Longs have gotten better and offer multiple options for upgrades like metal tracks. If you want a mid-high grade, get the asiatam upgrades and build one like myself and others, otherwise go high grade kit with Tamiya!

In some ways I am happy I am building the Heng Long/Asiatam first because aside from the models I built as a kid, as an adult I didn't know scratch building, airbrushing and other techniques. I'm learning as I build. In that regard the cheaper of the options was best for me. For an established model maker who has experience, tools and know-how a better quality kit will pay off more than turning a Heng Long toy into a model.

Scratch building from the ground up is an option too, one I hope to do some-day! Then you are simply paying for materials! You may have local machine shops that can even cut you steel or plastic panels or do other things like turn a barrel, or wheel rims on a lathe.
