RC Tank Warfare community hobby forum

Well i am Canadian and on a British forum.....why? Because you guys seem to know what you are talking about! I am a huge fan of German Armor. (as my user name might give away lol) Problem is i have no idea what a good solid build is so any help from you lads would be great! As things sit i am on a Student budget of $500 (from selling off a chuck of my warhammer army...would be higher if we had a better market here!)

*cough* Anyhow i am looking at these as first possible builds....... But any Suggestions of retailers,Tank Brands or anything would be great!

The first Option breaks my budget right now so it is a last opition and is pretty much just as pricey as a Tamiya (Which i would much prefer over ether choice but just can't afford) The second choice just fits into my budget but i am not sure if its a good build for $500?

welcome to the forum.
hmm all your tank ideas seem to be on the expensive side.
if you don't mind poking about, i would suggest you start off
with a heng long tank.
cheap as chips easy to fix & if you pick the right model,
plenty of upgrade parts available.
although proberbley more expensive in the long run.
you can spend a bit at a time,
so ease the burden.

Thanks! And you do have a point about the priceing if i am going to spend this much saving up a few more months for a Tamiya might just be the best idea.....

Welcome White Tiger...... I think a Tamiya would be well north of $500 so you might be saving for a little while still. I think the big decision other than Tamiya vs Taigen/HL is whether you want metal version or not. Are you interested in a all metal tank or just metal parts would suffice ? It also depends on how much you want to tinker/fix-up/repair..........

Well i would prefer something that will last over having to repair it every time i hit the field, However i really have no idea what the benefit of the metal bodies is.....

I personally like metal for the weight and also the realism, but certainly the sprockets, tracks, suspension arms would help in terms of durability. Don't think the metal lower hull does anything other than rigidity, and obviously upper hull is really more for show than anything else. I guess if you can get a Tamiya for "cheap" that would be a good start. I can't afford Tamiya for the number of tanks I played with so wasn't much of a choice, but you are right though in that it can very quickly get very expensive, especially if you start with cheaper tank/parts etc.

Don't forget that most of your shopping will be via the posties so shipping is going to be a big cost for anything and everything.......

Sadly still cheaper then buying local from what i can find so far they all mark up OVER tamiya retail.........and HL retail even lol!

I've worked with Tiger 1's from HL, Taigen and Tamiya.

If you want a robust tank you can build on go for a metal bottomed Taigen. That way you get things like metal tracks, barrel and recoil from the start. Metal uppers mean you can't change anything.

It you want something more accurate with better electronics then Tamiya is the only choice - you can find them second hand on ebay if you watch and wait - but be warned they are not as robust as Taigen (e.g. no metal barrel or tracks)...
