call for help to the 'electronics' on this board for a Wirbe

Hi chaps, i need help from the ‘electronically’ talented people in this board

I’m immersed in a new project, a Wirbelwind based in an old HL PzIV chassis. I want to hold the costs to a minimum, and I would like to use the HL electronics, the HL remote and a beier sound card for the sounds. I already own them, so I do not have to expend money in this area.

The alternative could be the future Taipan board, or the RC2HL solution, but the shipping costs from OZ to Spain are ‘devastating’…

Without taking into account the use of recoiling, if possible at all, I would like to know what you think about my idea, if it’s feasible or do you have any other way to do it… so:

- imagine a turret less HL PzIV, with the Wirbelwind one installed and with the flakvierling inside
- imagine that no servos would be used for elevation of the guns or rotating the turret, only engines.
- the turret rotation would be the same as any other HL

The standard HL ‘8 wires’ group of cables going from the RX18 to the upper hull is distributed in this way:

pin 1 (black) - negative turret rotation (3.8V - 4.0V)
pin 2 (red) + positive turret rotation

pin 3 (blue) - negative motor gun fire recoil airsoft (4V)
pin 4 (yellow) - negative motor gun elevation (7.2V)
pin 5 (brown) + positive common to elevation and gun engines

pin 6 (green) + positive common to light and MG shooting
pin 7 (white) - negative light
pin 8 (orange) - negative MG shooting

so then:

- there would be no tank gun or recoil or fire system, then the pin 3 (blue) would be free
- it would be possible to use the pins 6 and 8 for MG shooting to fire the flakvierling LEDs with the K button
- on the remote, stick down controls the tank gun elevation, but on a cyclic way, the engine always runs in the same direction (no polarity reverse)
- on the remote, stick up controls the tank gun firing

Well, have I said any incorrect?

Now, the possible solution to have elevation and depression of the flakvierling , up or down, without the cyclic thing, and is here where I need your thoughts and advice!

Could be possible, to use the ‘liberated’ pin 3 (blue) (remember, no tank gun to be fired) to make the elevation engine to turn in the opposite way?
With some electronic component? A polarity inverter? A relay? An H bridge?...?

If this i just said could be doable, then the guns could be fired with the remote’s K button, the remote’s sticks down and up to control the flak elevation…

What do you think? Do you have any other idea to achieve what I want?

Best regards and thank you very much!

Does this help ? (From the Clark site) Top one is original HL, bottom one is mod.

why not use a Clark board? couple things your going to have using an RX18 is terrible sound and one way motor control. With the clark you can re-wire all the pins and have a proportional control.

The turret control really would not change but you could re-wire your PZ4 to take advantage of the motors in gun elevation and the airsoft motor. On top of that the Clark board offers a servo recoil option that can be run at the same time as you use the elevation and airsoft motors for what ever pupose.
The sound would be much better but I would suggest using a sound card like a benedini etc to make the AA gun noises. I think it would be super easy to do that. Send me a pm and I'll work out a reasonable shipping option for you on the condition that you post your build as you progress here on RCTankwarfare.

hello FreakyDude,

as i wrote in my first post, the sound will be provided by a beier, fully customizable, so no problems here 8)

and my question was if my 'idea' would work, if it works, i would not need to buy electronics for this cat, as i already have the beier and the rx18.

I've read a lot more since my frst post, and saw diffent possible solutions, one of them, insted a mechanical relay, is using transistors to form a H bridge circuit, and there are some already build like the L293B.

maybe i would buy on of these and do some tests with a rx18 and a engine connected the way i said, so i will know empirically if this could work or not ;D

if all this is a failure, then i will have to start to ask for prices! thank you very much for your offer

and do not worry, i will post the process here very soon. I've already done a lot of things to the hull, currently waiting for the turret and the flak to arrive from Germany ;D

best regards
