New Joiner - Saying Hello

Hi All,

I just wanted to say hello and how useful I have found this site.

I am a retired electronics engineer. I got into 1:16 tanks last autumn when I was looking for a vehicle base for a Raspberry Pi project and bought a Heng Long Tiger1.

I used the lower hull for the Raspberry Pi project but was caught by the 1:16 Tank bug and upgraded the Tiger with a new hull.

After Christmas I decided that I would like to have a go at building a late version Tiger1 so started collecting parts, including another Heng Long Tiger1 which was a shop return. This is now coming along fine, albeit with a few compromises, but I am fast approaching the vexed problem of painting it, particularly the camouflage pattern:

Doing my research for the Late Tiger1 I came across this forum which has been really useful.

I am looking forward to participating in this forum.

Glyn

P.S. Slightly off-topic but here is the original lower tank hull being used for a Raspberry Pi project:

Welcome to the forum Glyn,

Great looking Late Prod Tiger 1! By the way what exactly does the Raspberry Pi tank do? Enjoy the forum...

Many thanks Derek.

The raspberry Pi tank is currently just programmed to trundle around and avoid obstacles. It does though have an electronic compass module so knows what bearing it is currently travelling on. One track link on each side is also painted white and in detected by a pair of sensors. At the moment this is just used for a time-out watchdog to detect if the tank has got stuck and one or both motors have stalled. (These were added after I stripped one of the original gearboxes :S .) However I am hoping that I can also use this to measure the distance travelled. The next stage is to change the program to see if I can get it to explore and map its environment.

At the moment though the late Tiger is my primary project so the raspberry tank is sort of on hold.

i'm liking your tiger but same as you, i've yet to try my hand at the camo painting.
i personally find the prospect frightning :haha:
as for your raspberry, it looks really involved.
