Hi guys..I currently have 2 Taigen Tigers..both are broken...rear idlers snapped off and suspension torsion bars have broke..They're about a year old, but get used daily

Anyway, I can't be bothered with cheap tanks that will constantly break..So I have decided to spend a bit more money on something that will be reliable. I don't battle, I just want something I can drive around the garden without having to worry when the next thing will fall off.

I have upwards of £500 to spend...maybe more for the right tank..

My thoughts so far have been.

Torro Pro edition King tiger, although I am concerned that it will be the same as the Taigen..cheap monkey metal waiting to break

Mato Full metal Tiger...and use the electronics out of my taigen tigers..again, I am worried that it will be cheap metal and simply break.

Or finally Tamiya, either Tiger, King tiger...or..spend a bit more and get the leapord 2a6..Not as much metal, but I have heard great things about Tamiya Tanks..and building them will mean I will know how to repair them should they eventually need it..And I come from a static modelling background...so I think I'd enjoy it. I have no eperience of the Tamiya rc tanks, so I'll rely on oppinions of people..I'd really like to not have to upgrade anything on the next tank..are the Tiger and the King tiger any good?..Or is it worth spending the couple of hundred pound more for the Leopard 2..

Either way, I will only be buying this one tank..not starting a collection, so I'd like to buy the right tank first time..

Any oppinions much appreciated.

In my opinion, I say go with the extra money and get the Leo 2A6, I've got one. An excellent runner, fun to build and add accessories (if you wish). Only thing I would do is immediately go for the Impact Metal tracks, I ran mine almost everyday for about 6 or 7 months and the stock tracks had to be replaced due to stretching. Plus with the Impact tracks, you get the ice grousers that you can add in winter time traction. One other bonus is there are quite of few countries that operate the Leo 2 A6 and offers you different paint scheme. Once again, just my opinion and good luck...

If you are looking for a great runner the Leo 2 is a great choise but it is also the most expensive...I would go with either the Tamiya Tiger 1 because there is alot of aftermark parts for it...and some of the parts for Taigen and HL also fit the Tamiya...my other choise is the Tamiya Panther...I don't have one but from what I have heard it is a really great runner...

Kwiky, You have no idea how much I laughed when I read that you would only be buying one Tank, yeah right, I shall let you in to a closely guarded secret, thats exactly what everyone of us said once. Anyway you have to buy Tamiya, and the Leo or the Tiger have to be the first choice. When you realise that you think you might buy just one more Tank come back and ask for help, we will still be here giggling like school kids saying I told you so. shaun

Hi, i agree that a tamiya should be the tank you purchase as the torro/mattoro tanks are all metal but they will have faults with them due to not so great quality control.
I wish myself i'd bought a tamiya, as i myself will only buy them now due to great quality control, fantastic electronics in the dmd units.
But which one is a hard choice, panther, tiger, king tiger all beautys in my eye.
As for only buying one, lol, but one and you'll be hooked.

is it really that common and often that the Taigen products would break just running them around the garden outside?
My son and I are looking into getting either a Taigen, Torro, H/L, or Mato to get away from unreliable outdoor running with our 1:24 scale VS tanks.

Am I really going to be seeing a mostly metal tank be as unreliable as the VS tanks? if so, then whats the point of upgrading from the VS tanks?

Hi,

If you are garden running then how long your tank will last will depend on the surface you are running on. Turns, particularly spin turns put tremendous strain on tracks and running gear if you are on grass or mud, small stones are dangerous because a stone can get jammed in the tracks and eventually either stall the motor or break something, woodchips can get picked up and jam in a sprocket and sand gets everywhere.

Like the driver of a real tank, be aware of the surface you are on and its potential for causing damage. The 1/8 and 1/6 models suffer also, it just takes a larger stone to stop them!
