New Tank Guy :D

Hi, I stumbled across this forum while researching buying my first r/c tank. I have been into r/c for as long as I can remember, my first "real" r/c model was a Tamiya sonic fighter which my dad built for me when I was about 10 years old.
Since then I have never looked back and have owned many models from electric and nitro cars/trucks/buggy's to helicopters and also fixed wing aircraft. My current r/c stable includes a hpi savage, RC8t truggy, parkzone spitfire, and various c/p heli's. I have always fancied a tank and after much reading/research just purchased a HL tiger 1 (standard RX18 model). I suspect this will become another expensive expansion of my r/c addiction. Especially as im already eyeing up many upgrade parts/mods and my tiger hasn't even arrived yet.
PS. This is an awesome site with some truly inspiring builds/threads.

Welcome to the forum Neil,
You have quite the collection, glad I'm only addicted to tanks. You are correct, this can become expensive but rewarding at the same time, especially the scratch building. Enjoy yourself and again welcome...

Hallo Neil, Welcome to the forum, obviously we do not know where you bought your Tiger ( YET ANOTHER TIGER, sigh, ) but I am here to point you in the direction of the approved vendors site, because when you buy your upgrades you need to know you can trust the dealers. I would suggest you spend a little time viewing the blacklisted dealers so that you do not get ripped off, too many Forum members had to find out the hard way who to avoid, PLEASE do not join them. Any questions just ASK, enjoy the lunacy. shaun

Thanks for the welcome guys, this is where I purchased my tank from:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230917663591? ... 1497.l2649
They seem to have good feedback and fast shipment, also seems like a good price. The main reason I went for a tiger is because of the availability of upgrades, I suspect this will be the first of many tanks though.
I quite fancy building a 1/35 tamiya static model r/c conversion. some of those look awesome.

Neil, You bought your Tiger from Howes and they are at the top end of suppliers although as they do not specialise in Tanks, they being a very well stocked and good value hobby shop based just outside Oxford, you might like to try a more dedicated dealer for upgrades, You will get a lot of help and free advice should you do that and of course we know a bit about this ( my wife began giggling when she said this) leisure activity. shaun

Thanks guys.
I now have my Tiger and I want to make some changes.
The first thing that I have to change is to get it moving in a realistic manner. I think the first thing I am going to do is put some lower ratio gearboxes in there. Does anyone have any recommendations on which low ratio box's to go for? I don't want the tank to go fast, just to have more low down grunt and a more scale movement speed.
