Hi all ,I've just removed the top of my smoke machine tank ,and inside there is a sort of charred wick . Does this serve a purpose or what ,should it be removed/cleaned . Atm I'm trying different mixes of glycirine and water ,with no luck with 33 gly to 66 dist h2o cheers

You need that wick as that is what soaks up the smoke fluid to the heat element. When ever I have took it out always managed to break the heater element so I say leave it.

Yes it does look fragile ,I've checked the voltage of the element and it's OK ,I'll leave well alone and try a slightly stronger mix

Just a thought... I am using electronic cigarette to try to quit smoking and I nix my own formula. I think they work on the same principal as these smokers in that they have a metal mesh wick somewhere that heats up to vaporize the liquid. I am building a KT and I am going to try my mix in it but in the meantime I use vodka as the agent to breadown the VG grade glycerine rather than water. The formula we use for the cigerette is 38% glycerine, 30 percent vodka (you can use pure grain alcohol as well) and 32% flavouring like pure almond extract. So I am thinking I an going to try this fomula first, it will make the house smell nice if I run it indoors! If it works to some extent then I will try experimenting with no flavouring and just mixes of the alcohol and glycerine. I believe that the alcohol/glycerine would vapourize much easier than a water mix since we all know alcohol evaporates much quicker than water too. Just thought I would throw this out there!

Stupid me! Since you are not smoking it of course you can use cheap 99% rubbing alcohol which makes it easy since almost everyone using Tamyia paints uses that to thin it! Use it in the smoker Duh! LOL!

I've been trying many mixtures for my smokers over the years: glycirine/water, glycirine/alchohol, motor oil; cooking oil and fog juice...I finally set out for baby oil. It's cheap, you can get it at any grocery store; and it works...

Would baby oil work on the stock HL smoker ? What would be the composition ? I see you have a proportional custom smoker here. Lastly, would it stink up the house ?

Baby oil is made of 100% liquid paraffin with generally aloes and perfume added; depending of the brand...
I switched to baby oil mainly because it was a better lubricant for the rubber tip of the piston for the boosted version of the stock H.L. smoker...http://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/forums/v ... =33&t=8027
Too much heat will produce a thick stinky white smoke; reducing the heat will produce a reasonable amount of smoke with a baby powder smell...
The smoke unit in the above video is my last design; I'm using the back pressure of a "taigen" speaker as the pumping system for the unit...
