I found a way , quite by accident ; to use the back pressure of a speaker as a pumping system for a smoke unit ...Take a look at this video and judge by yourself...

so, did you remove the pump section of the smoker unit and then attached the pipe? anything else?

The only thing left on the smoke unit is the heater element ( in this case, a 14 OHMS 1 Watt wire wound resistor).

The speaker and the smoke unit are not even connected to each other ; there's a 1/16" gap between the pipes...

(When connected together, the speaker is sucking in more smoke inside it's enclosure than it put out at the exhausts...The smoke would also produce liquid residue that could damage the speaker overtime... )

Think of all the advantages of this mod.:

- No more noise from the pumping system
- Lighter load on the battery ( connect the heater to the power switch, turn on the power; let the smoke build inside the unit for 1 min. before starting the engine.)
- No need to connect the smoke unit to any ESC.
- No need to tap into the motor terminals for proportional speed (the speaker does that)
- Smoke unit becomes universal ( all you need is a decent sound card and a good speaker)
- Smoke at the exhaust is a visual representation of the sound at the speaker ( the speaker is acting as an air pulsed fan)

i like that bud, wonder if you could fit some sort of perferated tube between the smoker and speaker. just to lessen the back pressure, or would that destroy the pulse effect?

The idea is just like a "new born" right now...It is proving that the back pressure of a speaker can be use as a pumping system for a smoke unit...I plan to experiment with different set up (like using a check valve or an extra adjustable port hole in the speaker enclosure).
I also foresee some problems like: What happens when firing the machine gun or the main cannon ???Will it show when the engine is running???
I did another test with the machine gun sound of the RX-18 and the customized cannon sound I'm using in my Pershing ...
But the real problem will be: Using the sound effects on a board like the Clarke TK-20 ; when the motor is not running ...
One way to get around this will be to use a small servo motor to interrupt the air flow between the speaker and the smoker...

On the Clark board it switches the smoker off when not producing engine noise effects. So maybe use that supply to power the heater element.

Very clever indeed .. ....It must actually work the same way that the 'Pop-Pop' (or 'Put-Put') candle powered boats do....The movement of air created by the speaker is forced out down the tube and so into the smoke chamber...in a 'straight line'...but when the air is drawn back into the speaker it enters the tube from 'all around' and so creates a Net Pressure Flow ' Towards' the smoke unit !

Are you still using the Heng Long 'Oil' or have you changed to something different...and are you using the standard wick ??

I say , An acoustic smoker ! Strmnd54 , Have you thought of putting a diapham under the speaker ? . ( an ex Chrimbo balloon skin , say ) - That will allow the pulse to still work but will isolate the speaker from residue ? . . . Oh dear , now my brain hurts .
