Outdoor IR Battlefield Surface Question

Post by Glen B »

I wanted to see what other clubs with permanent, outdoor fields have for a field surface.

We currently cut the grass as short as we can, but were wanted to look at alternatives.

Our site is on clay soil. One idea was to kill the grass and just run on the clay, the grass would have to be killed off with the use of a tarp since sprays like Roundup are no longer available in bulk to private individuals, here.

I am concerned about putting a layer another material down, like sand or fine stone etc. out of concern for what it would do to the tracks.

Hi Glen B , PanzerPaul has written many articles about outdoor battlefield construction,we created the Battlefield section in cooperation with Paul and his fine work.

I believe in the first section on selecting a battlefield he addresses your question.

Contacting him might be a better option as he has a lot of experience with this part of our Hobby.

Hope this is helpful,cheers Blake
